Direct-access remotes

Hi all, my PC does double duty and my primary PC and PVR, so I've decided I really need a direct-access remote setup to do it right. Two questions:

1) I've been trying unsuccessfully to get this to work with the MCE 2005 remote that came with my capture card. Has anyone had any success jerry-rigging this without having to use girder? I've heard of autohotkey.com but haven't had a chance to investigate. Any success stories there?

2) If I can't get the above working, I think I'll just need to purchase a Hauppauge remote and use GBPVR's built-in "direct access" feature, which it seems people have been able to get to work with both the 34 and 45-button remotes. I'm thinking Ebay is the best place to get one of these, and there certain model numbers I need to keep an eye out for, or will any remote that came with any of the Hauppauge cards work, provided it has the IR receiver/remote setup?

3) Any other easy solutions I've overlooked?

It'd probably be helpful to tell people what remote you've got. There are lots of different MCE remotes. Some work well with the built in MCE functionality, some dont. Likewise for third party software like Girder and HIP.

This specific feature only works with PVR250 and PVR350 cards, which I'm guessing is not what you've got?

Sub, you are correct thanks, I have a Theater 550 Pro-based card from Sapphire. The MCE2005 remote came with it, it looks quite generic, it just says "Sapphire Theatrix" on the back....?

And yes mvandere, I'm a cheap bastard. Where can you download hip for free? How is it different from girder exactly? I could only find a version of girder that would ultimately cost like $50.
