I have noticed that this version is a little less stable than previous versions probably due to differences in the net2.0 framework and the covnversion to sql probably add to the issues. I can certainly understand how many little things can creap through but even with these issues it is still a great program.

My problem this time, another minor annoyance like th recording service not starting, is that the GUI, gbpvr.exe occasionally disappears. I have had it happen three times now which doesn't sound bad until you realize that I had never had it happen before now. There is never any sort of error on screen but there are errors recorded in the logs. I am attaching a zip file with three sets of logs for bug tracing. Each time I think I was doing something like a backskip or pause / resume, nothing extraordinary.

If there is anything I can test let me know.

The GB-PVR gui is also crashing on me when I try to play certain mpeg videos. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to what videos crash it, based on bit rate or size, but the ones that do crash it always crash it within a second or so of starting playback.

By crash, I mean that the gui stops running, just as if I'd hit the exit button. There are no error messages. Oh, I'm talking about the gui running on my pc, that I run by right-clicking on the GB-PVR icon in my system tray, and then selecting "Start GB-PVR". These same videos play just fine on my mvp.

Here is the gbpvr.exe-native.log; based on the "modified" attribute, it seems to be the only one that might contain pertinent info. If there are other logs that you need to see, let me know.

I saw in the logs you use the ravisent decoders, I remember from the Sage-forum, people having lockups with those drivers. You could try another decoder.

I was also going to comment on the ravisent decoders decoders. I've never tried these, and not seen any comments from other users about them, so they are very much an unknown quantity with GB-PVR.

I'm not really sure. I've not seen any other posts with this error.

It is clear from the logs that the same error occurring each time:
Quote:5/26/2006 11:34:47 PM.687 ERROR [1] System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I can see in your logs that the video has been asked to stop immediately before the crash. I cant tell why it is stopping though - manually stopped, reached end of video, some other error not shown in logs.

Do you see a popup message shown in GB-PVR (not a windows separate window)?

It would probably be worth trying different video/audio decoders to see if it improves. These are the most likely contributor to the problem. Maybe try another audio renderer as well.

When I upgraded to .97.7 I had almost the exact error: "System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory" until I switched back to .96.12 where it was back to being rock solid again.

I am using the Intervideo video codec and AC3Filter audio, but I have tried using InterVideo audio decoder as well with no luck. I no longer have my HDTV card installed (but would like AC3Filter to play back some MPEG 2 clips with AC3 audio). I have no plugins, and I tried uninstalling FFdshow as well. I wish I saved the logs before I went back to .96.12, but they look almost exactly the same. When I get more free time I will try .97.7 again and re-post if I still have the problem.

None of the crashes was at the end of the show, they were all while I was watching. I am pretty sure they were all when I had pressed a remote button, usually play to skip commercials or pause. The last one (three) I had just tried to backspace to see something and blink a black screen. There is no popup of any sort, it just disappears.

Also there is nothing wrong with the video as it plays perfectly once I bring gbpvr back up each time.

I generally leave gbpvr (the gui) running all the time so it is running but not being accessed whenever the computer wakes for recordings. Could there be some sort issue caused by it running for a while? I haven't seen it crash twice in a row, it seems to work for a few days before the next crash.

This happens with both the intervideo 7.x decoder and the nvidia purevideo decoder (whatever the latest is). Neither of these caused any problem like this before. The only thing that has changed is gbpvr.

Sorry, I'm not dont know why you'd be getting this. Because this is not a widespread problem, it must be something environmental (machine setup, decoders, renders etc).

In GB-PVR Configuration, on the playback tab, under Software MPEG-2 Playback, for "video decoder" my choices are "System Default", "Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder for..."(I can't see the rest), and "Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder". I have it set to "System Default". "Audio Decoder" and "Audio render" are also set to "System Default".

I don't know what a "Ravisent" is. I found a folder ..\Program Files\Common Files\Ravisent Shared, with the following files on it: ATIAdapter.dll, DSCinemAudioDecoder.dll, and DSCinemVideoDecoder.DLL, but I don't know how it got there. There's nothing in the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel called "Ravisent". Does anyone know how to get rid of it, without causing something to break?

You probably dont need to uninstall it. Just try selecting the Intervideo or Cyberlink decoder rather than rely on your 'system default' MPEG2 decoder.
