I'm a chaintech AV710 user and have been happily using winamp and the asio4all plugin for bit perfect music playback. The full details of this setup can be found over here http://www.htpcnews.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3616.

Basically this setup avoids the windows kmixer that resamples all your 44.1kHz sampled audio stuff (CD's, wav's mp3's and mp4/aac) to 48kHz then back agin mangling it and making it sound like crap. The process apparently does it does nasty things like "reverse byte order" according to hardcore avsforum folks. Upon hearing the difference on a decent sound system I was a convert.

The true test of bit perfect playback is the ability to play dts audio cd's or .wav files in full 5.1 glory. The bitstream passes from the source through the soundcard's spdif output unmangled by kmixer.

Back to my problem, I would like to consolidate my HTPC application setup and move to GBPVR for music playback as well. I have recently tried playing dts .wav files within GBPVR without success, the audio ending mangled and unrecognisible to my amps' spdif input.

Is there any way to achive winamp like asio playback within GBPVR ?

As far as I know, not as GBPVR stands, it uses direct show filters to play stuff and they use kmixer. I believe incorporating a plugin to use foobar might be possible because iTunes users have a plugin to use the foobar engine.

But my knowledge doesn't stretch much further than this. I'd definitely be interested if someone could sort this or if sub could incorporate this into GBPVR???

The plugin looks interesting will try it under winamp when I get home.

There is a interesting thread over at avsforums on mce directshow bit perfect playback http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=567562

One user has reported getting bit perfect plaback using the onboard realtek 880 sound of a msi K8NGM2-FID board. Others are talking about usb sound cards.

Just tried this winamp plugin inplace of the out_asio(exe).dll v0.62 plugin I had been using. Playback is bit perfect using this as well verified on some 44.1kHz dts wav files. As expected the ASIO->KS wrapper is still necessary.

What about reclock, there is some talk of kernel streaming playback with it around, anyone tried this ?

Never heard of it, but being a bit of an audiophile tried this on my work pc with winamp. It does make a difference. Now for my HTPC running GBPVR I would *VERY* much like this! As that HTPC is connected to my stereo!

Mabo,

Out of interest what sort of sound card are you using ?

Maybe this thread should be moved over to wishlist if not possible with current release and plugins.

Are there any music playback plugins that can utilise winamp rather than wmp directshow playback ?

daza67,
I'm using the plain on-board sound of my ASUS Pundit (the original one). The sound quality is not bad, but could be improved. At this very moment I'm experimenting with ASIO4ALL, winamp and the winamp plugin.

Haven't found anything with directsound, though...

I tried reclock last night with Reven's My Music 3. Managed to get a dts wav file to play through my Av710, spdif to receiver and it worked. However two problems, sometimes it would "loose the connection" some how and I'd just get garbage out. Didn't have time to work out why but it seemed to be if I pressed stop on the remote and I'd been navigating about before hand and secondly My Music crashed GBPVR on Live TV Sad

But it did work!...nearly.

Will play more when wife not watching tv/listening to music.....which isn't very often.

SS,

That's encouraging, I have avoided using it caused av sync issues especially on ac3 channels through my dvb card. The avsforums thread posted had some mention of the reclock eventually working but with some initial stuttering. Did your video playback still work and did it suffer audio sync problems ?
