When FFmpeg is true, and GB-PVR does not use the Trans2MVP.bat It seems to use the Pal cmdline...

<MVPTranscodeUsingFFmpeg>true</MVPTranscodeUsingFFmpeg>
<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" {SEEK_CMD} -b 2400 -ac 2 -ab 224 -r 25 -s 352x288 ......

The avi is ntsc film, (23.97), standard HD 16.9 format. The vid won't play longer than about a minute or so. and it seems that the Pal line is called...

When I play with aspect ratios and stuff in the pal command line, things change.

Which dongle are you using, and what model MVP do you have?

This is usually a sign that your CPU isnt fast enough to transcode in the required 'faster than realtime'.

I've tried 'em all, mostly using the main one, dongle.bin, comes with 97.9. Have the H2.

Fair enough. It's a amd xp2100 over clocked 1.7ghz to 2.0ghz. (very stable) I have the services and autorun programs pretty lean. But I may have been doing something else at the time...

I'm not sure this is the reason for your PAL vs NTSC thing, but with an H2 you'll need to be using dongle-3.0.24088.bin. They changed the way the flash memory is accessed in the newer H series of MVP, and the older dongle.bin will not know how to read this flash memory in your H series device. The flash stores stuff like whether it is PAL/NTSC, 4:3/16:9 etc.

I would expect this CPU to be marginal. If you lower the bitrate and resolution it may do it reliably.

What a day and age where a 2.0ghz machine is mariginal...

oh well

BTW. I noticed that if I have a avi - hd rip, 350mb, about 45 mins, around 1000kb/s, if I Transcode to MPEG at 1400 it looks very comparable, plus I have CPU to boot.

Perhaps it would look worse on a great TV. But then the AVI itself is probably poor on close inspection. I'm very close...
