How do fix the problem of TV video stutter when the guide is on screen? I have replaced the Quartz.dll file with the 9.0b version. I have also tried different settings in the video decoder settings (VMR7 VMR9 Overlay).

Anything else I can try?

Have you also tried different video decoders in the drop down menu under 'software mpeg-2 playback'? Google for mpeg decoders if you dont have many options - DScaler and GPL are both freebies.

I will give that a shot when I get home. Does Dscaler require a fast PC? I have a AMD Duron 1200 mhz/384 ram/Radeon 9000/TV Wonder Elite(Theater 550 chip).

I think it may also be related to the slowness of your CPU.
My setup with a 1.5 GHZ does the same thing (stutters) but it seems to happen when I first bring up the Live TV guide, and when I go up or down on the channel list it slows down again - but if the guide is just displayed, then it's fine.

Does this sound like your issue?
I put it down to a low spec CPU - trying to decode MPEG2, and open / read the databse etc at the same time.

I've been having this since the upgrade to .net 2.0, seems like displaying the overlay graphics (especially the first time) sucks up a lot of CPU power. The live TV messes up for 2 or 3 seconds. But after that it's okay for me. Although I have a digital box with a good guide on it, so don't use the built in one too much.

This sounds like the missing indexes that is described (and solved) in the 97.9 survival guide thread.

I am having this same issue, even after running the index utility. It only happens after loading the guide the first time when you start gbpvr, and after a couple of hours of operation. I was working with sub on the matter shortly before he went on vacation, and so far no solutions. It seems to be an issue with loading the guide data while watching live tv (in either live preview or timeshift, I have tried both) as when I hit the guide button, the picture and sound stutter and even stop completely for about 10-12 seconds, then the guide displays. Most of the time, the picture and sound remain out of sync and the video seems to be in slow motion. To remedy this, I exit live tv, then go back in and everything is fine. Pressing the guide button displays it immediately with no stutter. Then after a couple of hours, the same problems arises, almost as if the guide info is cached and has a timeout after a couple of hours when gbpvr refreshes the cache from the db (my assumption only). My machine is no slouch either:

Dell Precision WS 360 P4 3.0HT
1GB RAM
ATA133 HD's (40GB system, 2x60GB storage)
- Defragged to see if that helps as well
ATI 9550 256MB AGP
Windows XP Pro SP2 (patched up to date)
Hauppauge PVR-150MCE
MCE Remote and KB
GBPVR 97.9 (SQLite)

I am going to run some disk benchmarks to see where the bottleneck is as my cpu usage during most operations is minimal (although during this 10-12 seconds or disk thrashing, the cpu bounces between 85-100%). Hopefully when sub gets back he will have some insight on the matter.

I have the PC connected to a 36" Sony tv with an S-video cable. I offered to sub to take a small video clip of the tv as it does it so he can see what is going on, but then he went on vacation. I sent sub my db3 file and he didn't say anything bad about it, just asked what my system specs were. I do have 7 days of EPG data which could be a factor in having so much data to load, but it seems to me a caching type issue within gbpvr as it only occurs on first load and then after a couple of hours. It's a minor annoyance to me as I can just back out to the main menu then go back into live tv and its fine, but it definitely affects the WAF as she isn't a computer person like I am and just wants things to work Smile

Anyone else having this issue and or suggestions? The wife definitely gets annoyed when it happens and ends up just switching back over to watching the cable box.

I'm having this issue as well, but I chock it up to my slower CPU (Athlon 1.2).
