I posted this in the wrong forum... Sorry, but here is the problem:

My config:

PIII 800mhz
512mb ram
Windows XP sp1
Hauppauge 350PVR (svid out to hd tv)
VMR7

My Problem:
I am running the latest release of GBPVR. I have been reading the forums on GBPVR memory usage. It seems that my machine will record 2 or 3 shows... then get a "virtual memory error" and GBPVR locks up. A restart is needed to fix.
I look at my task manager and I see that the memory for the recording service and gbpvr.exe keep creeping up and never come down. I also noticed that if I fire up the OSD there are two instances of GBPVR.exe. Is this correct?? I have a batch file that restarts the recording service for a temp fix. I restart it every night at about 2 am. I've read the "almost give up" thread and tried the dll fix... no good....Any thoughts??

Thanks

When you say 'fire up the OSD', what do you mean? When you first start GB-PVR is there only one instance of GBPVR.exe? If you're got GB-PVR configured to auto start MVP servers, this may explain an extra instance of GBPVR.exe in the background.

When you posted the other days I left a PVR350 running for a couple of hours without any signs of any memory leak. Memory did creap up over time, but evetually garbage collection kicked in and it dropped back down (moving the mouse over the GB-PVR screen while video is playing can "encourage" GB-PVR to free buffered images).

You might need to provide a more detailed analysis over a few hours. Maybe capture memory usage for these processes using perfmon, and then send them over for me to look at.

Ok,
Thanks sub, When I restart my computer, The mvp service is started and is minimized (just over the start button, I don't use an MVP) I manually close it. (how do you disable this??) The recording service starts as well. I then have a shortcut to GBPVR. I click on the shortcut to open the OSD. I then use GBPVR through the TV with the Hauppauge Remote.
I look at my process list and there is two GBPVR.exe processes running.

I will get more detailed with the process and memory.

Thanks for your help.

Great stuff

You cant close by clicking the cross, it just restarts it hidden. This is option in the config app for the number of mvp servers to auto start. Just set this to zero.

Sub,
I had a chance to do some more investigating with GBPVR.exe this weekend. I think I still have a problem. I started GBPVR.exe last night to bring up the OSD. In the task manager it showed about 4,000k mem usage. I watch it for a bit and it continued to increase about 2k every second. I checked it this morning and it was at 63,000k and still climbing.

It seems like about every 2 days, the osd will lock up.. I can still schedule recordings and access the pc fine. However, When I try to close the OSD (by clicking the X), I get a not responding.. end now box. I hit end now and the OSD on the pc display closes. I then look at my process and even though the OSD window is no longer running the GBPVR.exe process is still there and I can't end the process. The memory stops climbing when I end now, but the process is still there. I try to end process and it doesn't do anything... It takes a reboot in order to fix.

I did set the mvp recording service to 0 in the config file. Which fixed the number of running GBPVR.exe process. So I think that problem is fixed.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

GB-PVR should use between 45mb (45000k) and 90mb (90000k) of memory, so 64mb doesn't sound like too much. The 4000k you saw initially sounds wrong, or it was before GB-PVR started to buffer screen images etc.

Before you start GB-PVR, how many GBPVR.exe's are in the Windows Taks Manager process list? Note down their PIDs. Start GBPVR.exe. Again note down the PIDs. Do some stuff in GB-PVR. Then close it. Check the task manager, are the processes still present?

Sub,
First of all, sorry, I don't want to be a pain in the A$$. I just want to rely on my recording times.. I've missed some good tv.

There are 0 (zero) GBPVR.exe's in the process list before I fire up the OSD. When I start GBPVR.exe to open the OSD it shows a PID of 720. I do some stuff in the OSD then close it. The process goes away. I think I understand that this is what it is supposed to do. My problem is after about 20 hours of the system running. The OSD will lock up. I access the machine, then I click the x to close the OSD. It won't close and I get the end now box. I click end now. Then check the process list and GBPVR.exe is still listed. I try to manually end the process and it doesn't do anything. I then have to reboot and start over.

Thanks

I suspect the PVR350 driver is keeping the front end process (GBPVR.exe) alive. You could try restarting the PVR350 driver when this occurs to confirm this diagnosis. Restarting the driver was discussed in a recent post about returning from hibernation with the PVR350 (it requires you to download some utility from somewhere).

The PVR350 drivers aren't known for their stability, but the most recent version (1.18.21.22254) are much better than previous ones, so you may want to make sure this is the version you're running.
