windows xp black/white bootup screen

I know this is not a gbpvr question and more of a windows support question but I havent been able to get the right answer from anyone and was hoping someone on the forum knew it, I have my ati 9100 video card connected to my tv using svideo, everything works fine except when booting up the tv displays the windows logo in b/w, once windows loads up it changes to color, I have checked the bios and there is no option to set, I am using the latest ati video drivers as well, its not a major deal but I would like to use a gbpvr wallpaper on bootup and the b/w screen does it no justice, if anyone can help id appreciate it

This is absolutely normal, if you're living within a PAL Country. On Startup many Graphiccards initiates as NTSC-Compatible Models...; the startups can be Black & White or even flickering fast! Till the Driver for the Graphicscard was loaded.
Also no panic ^^

I'm in NTSC land and get the same thing on my Radeon 9800 SE. POST and WinXP splash screens will be in B&W and be scrolling top to bottom quickly. As soon as the desktop is activated all is good. I wouldn't mind a solution to this either, but its only a mild annoyance to me.

If you have an advanced level of knowledge you could think about flashing a modified BIOS for your Graphicscard; so that this one has the right frequencies for TV-Out @ Boottime.
But personally i wouldn't do that; it's a little dangerous to do this. Entered the wrong Values in the BIOS -> BANG Graphicscard death. Wrong flashed Graphicscard -> BANG It's death (and not easy to bring back to live).

I would let it be.

That's good info. So its hardcoded in the cards BIOS? I wonder if at one point I flashed my card with a PAL firmware.

I'm not brave enough try a homebrew, but I'll grab the official North American ATI firmware tonight and try it. Thanks Drag.

Well my ATI 7500 gives nice color when booting trough s-video. No idea why it just does it. My other Nvidia 6200 give lack and white.

Yeah, my OnBoard 6150, my old 6600 and my 7600 GT did the same; curiously my 6800 GT AGP (old System) never done this ^^

For me it's no longer a Problem; i removed my Televison with a LCD and connected it directly with the VGA Output. No Problems anymore, no flickering, nothing unsharp. I'll never go back to a SVideo Solution ^^;

Some ATI cards have a jumper to select PAL vs NTSC for the TV-Out (outside of Windows); I seem to recall that my 9800 Pro did.

thanks guys its a minor inconveience that i guess ill have to deal with, on another note what power options do you guys have enabled for your pc's, i have mine set to always on but am debating whether to have the hard drive power off after a while, am curious if this will affect the recordings as i dont want there to be a delay in recording when the drive powers on again.
