Hey guys,

I had to "Force TV Detection" to get my ATI 9600 Pro to output to TV. Fine, so long as it works. But whenever I reboot, it forgets my setting as TV primary output. It's a huge pain to have to login to the box remotely to change it after a reboot.

The Svideo output is connected to my receiver, that is in turn connected to the TV. I think that might be the issue, as I don't recall this problem when I was directly connected to the TV from the PC.

However, I know it's a driver issue. Because when I reboot, I get video on the TV all the way up until when WinXP loads the video driver. I don't have any other output setup from teh video card, just the TV SVideo.

Anyone ever deal with this?

Thanks!

I have this exact same problem with my ASUS 9550 card. All driver versions after Catalyst 5.7 produce this problem, so I know it is a driver problem.

I raised 'TAC case' with ATI support, but they said it was ASUS specific. So I raised a 'TAC case' with ASUS who were useless and kept saying stupid things like "have you tried rebooting your PC", but eventually they said they tested my model of card and found no problem. So I hit a brick wall and gave up.

I have recently purchased a widescreen LCD TV/monitor and use VGA interface, so I don't need the TV-out anymore.

OP, do you still have a VGA (monitor or LCD) display attached? If so, try unplugging all but your S-video.

Wow, grats on your new LCD Csy Smile.

As I mentioned, I don't have any other output attached, just the TV Out.

Whoops, I missed that, sorry. Smile

Does this happen with both S-Video AND Composite?

Actually, I haven't tried composite.. I'd really rather not given the quality loss. But I imagine I'd have the same issue as it would route through my receiver as well.

I saw some posts when I was researching video cards where some people had this issue, but I never saw a resolution (and now can't find those posts :|).

Zato: just as an FYI, my 9600pro works perfectly when connected to the tv only, using svideo. I am using the 6.6 ATI drivers.

I suspect the receiver is not being recognised as a TV. Have you tried force tv detection in the control centre?

Good to know gEd, thanks.

I already have force detection (Won't work at all with it off).

I'm going to try to setup a Hotkey that will load my profile with the TV Setttings. That way when I reboot I just hit the hotkey to turn on the TV output. Should work in theory Tongue.

I think you can save your setup as a video profile then create a shortcut & place that in the startup folder so it loads at boot.

I wonder if there is a registry setting to keep TV detection on at all times.
