I'm finally gonna make the jump and get a 46" Samsung DLP. I want to get HD service from DTV and be able to record it. Can that be done or is OTA the only option for recording? I currently record cable and DirecTV using a PVR150 and a Theatrix 550. All help with recommendationsis appreciated. Oh, and I don't think OTA HD is available in the boonies where I live. Sad

I basically want to know if I can record high definition from a source (Directv H20 box) or is an antenna my only option. I want to add the high def along side my analog recordings.

OTA is fairly easy with a supported HD device. I can't think of a way to make the DirectTV work, except record from you set top box. That would give you analog, as I am not aware of any capture devices that can accept the digital output.

At this stage, in the US, your only option is to record OTA digital using one of the available ATSC digital OTA cards (ATI A180, Fusion etc), or to record a standard definition signal output by your Directv H20 box via analog card like Hauppauge PVR150.

Directly recording US digital cable will probably be possible in 6 months or so in the US (MS Vista defines the QAM / CableCard interfaces).

Directly recording US digital satellite is unlikely to happen anytime in the near future.

So I guess OTA is "over the air". Still don't know what DLP is.
