Hi!

In my gbpvr directory I have a file called 'samples.csv' of over 3GB.
What is it for?

Hello

I don't have a file called samples.csv in my GBPVR directory or anywhere else. .CSV files are "comma seperated data files" which are plain ASCII text with comma seperating each field.

There are normally opened by spreadsheets, such as Excel, but you might be able to open it with notepad, if the filesize is not too large (Right click on file and select "Open With" and if notepad is not there use "Choose Program" to select it).

I have this also but do not know what creates it. You can not open it because of its size. It doesn't appear to really get any larger than 2 to 3gig. The file date is always fairly current also.

It might help if you guys listed what plugins you are using, if any.

Possible virus?

Google search for it doesn't turn up anything of value... ie. if it were a common/known virus or other piece of malware. Certainly worth investigating though!

Possibly try renaming it and see if another one is made or a program complains.

What about comskip? It can produce csv files.

I am running 96.12 with My Videos, Weather and comskip. I cant really tell you what is in it because of the size when I try and open it my computer freezes. I can delete it but it will come back. Bt looking at the time stamps I think it may be comskip. The file is modified about the same time comskip is running. The current time stamp is 8:08pm which is just after a recording. When I looked at it earlier it was 12:09am after a recording of CSI.

To view the view have you tried the good old dos command TYPE?

You can use " type samples.csv|more "
and it will display a page of the file, then pause for a keystroke (at which point you can Ctrl-C to break out of it)

You'll then be able to read down the file as much as you want until you are sure what it contains. (and I think this reads lines at a time - not the whole file like notepad so it shouldn't crash out)
