Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, can't seem to find it if it has..

When playing a DVD it will play the opening title fine up untill the main menu. When I select to play the movie GBpvr crashes with a nice little notice apologising for the inconvienience... Anyone that's ever read Douglas Adams might see some irony here...8)

Anyway I've messed with the DVD decoders and things but can't seem to make a difference here. This is on a new install of the OS (XP) with Net2 SP2 DX9 and Media Player10 all freshly installed.

I normally use the K-lite codec pack but I've removed it as I thought this might be causing more problems than it's worth. Insted I've just installed the Xvid and Divx codecs stand-alone. Trying to remove any sort of FFDshow codecs and the like.

I've shaved down and attached the logs if someone could take a look and maybe point me in a direction, other than the stupid corner...Rolleyes it would be appreciated. I'm missing my PVR..Sad

I think I understood from the logs that you use the gpl-decoder.
On the gpl-site I read this:
Quote:
GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder is a free DirectShow MPEG decoder filter. It can be used to play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams in any media player based on DirectShow. In addition, it can be used as DVD decoder for unencrypted discs.

Maybe you should try another decoder.

I thin k I had the DVD decoder set to Intervideo in the Config App. I can't make sense of the logs, but if that's what you got form it I'll try uninstalling and re0installing the Codecs and see what happens.

Thanks

You can see what you selected in config. I'm just curious if I read the logs right.

Edit: I reread the logs and it definitely says gpl. Maybe you have selected default in config?

Definatly set the decoders to Intervideo this time. I can see it in the native log.

I'm sure I was using these decoders with the last release and they worked fine. Never had Gbpvr crash before no matter what the codec issues were. Poor performance was about the worst I've experienced.

I do think it's something bigger than just codecs, though they can cause many varied and wierd problems. Maybe I forgot to install something when I flushed the OS, who knows. Cant' think of anything really obvious though. It's a clean system without any old installs corrupting things I would have though.

i bet it's those codec packs...they are made by hackers, most of the filters in there are illegal rips from pay software packages..and very poorly put together..
and half the time they end up 'tweakin' your system to get it to work..
[which breaks other software]
most of their codecs are obscure and unneeded...the only ones you need are better off installed seperately..
and don't think you can uninstall them...lol
i've never gotten one to completely uninstall correctly..[always leaving tidbits behind] sometimes so much you have to re-install Win to get things back to normal..
all i ever install is a good mpeg2 decoder that does dvd decoding, and ffdshow...
takes care of about 90% of the files out there..Smile
