The last couple of weeks I have been coming home to playback a recording I made only to find out it was never recorded. I had been looking through the logs, but no information there either. So I just missed another movie (Arrrrghhh!!!) and decided to spend a little more time troubleshooting. Turns out, the GBPVRRecordingService is not running (hence the lack of recording and no information in the logs). Not sure what is going on... or why it is happening.

Here are my event logs, in any case.

Those last couple of recording service logs just look like something or someone manually requested the recording service to stop. This was an orderly shutdown, not the result of an error or anything.

Quote:7/28/2006 6:02:54 PM.015 INFO [5] RecordingManager has been signalled to shutdown
7/28/2006 6:02:54 PM.312 INFO [5] RecordingManager has finished
7/28/2006 6:02:55 PM.015 INFO [4] GB-PVR Recording Service shutdown complete
7/28/2006 6:02:55 PM.109 INFO [2] Finalize called

I had restarted the service from the tray icon, maybe that is what is seen?

Maybe. Do you know what time this failed recording was to record? What was the show name?

You could also look in the Windows Event Viewer to see if it lists an error for the GB-PVR Recording Service.

Star Trek, Generations at 3pm, then Land Before Time III at 5pm. When I got home at 6pm, it had not recorded Star Trek, marked as Failed in the list of recordings, and Land Before Time had not started as expected. I restarted the service, and Land Before Time started to record immediately...

I'm not really sure. You logs show the recording service was running uninterrupted between 7/24/2006 1:08:49 PM and 7/28/2006 5:40:48 PM, which star trek should have recorded in.

Any way I can troubleshoot why a recording doesn't start?

I cant really think of anything for this specific case. There were no messages at all in the log for a few hours there. The machine wasnt in standby or hibernate at the time?

NO, I leave it on all the time. The only thing I can think of is I did install the 'Show Search' plugin to search/find/schedule movies (easier to find movies) and thinking about it, all of the recordings that have been missed have been scheduled through this plugin. I'm going to check the database and see if there are any material differences when I schedule a recording through the 'Show search' interface vs. the Native interface.

I remember seeing a post where you referred to a good tool to browse the SQLite DB. Do you remember what it was called?

Yeah, worth checking.
