Having a new computer setup, im intrested in using my surround sound.
After lots of tinkering around i have yet to find a way to get GBPVR to play net radio or radio, or tv in surround sound.
Is this true of everyone? If not did you have todo anything to get it working?
Thanks. kind of annoying using only front left and right and sub

It relies mostly on your used AudioDecoder, i would say. I am using PureVideo Decoder and have @ TV 5.1 Sound

hmm it seems none of my audio decoders i have for my 550pro are making 5.1.. Will finding a download of the purevideo decoder work for this card 2?
EDIT: actually it appears it not free its a 29.99 product.. i wish i could make sure it was going to work first.
I cant get windows media player to get out of 2 speaker mode either... even tho my sound card and control panels configured for 5.1
EDIT: downloaded a 30 day trial of it and it doesnt work either.. glad i didnt buy it... Anyone have any ideas why gbpvr and WMP and my other livetv source wont play it in 5.1... even if the tv tuner card cant handle 5.1 why cant the gbpvr radio handle it?

Probably the only source you'll have that will generate a real 5.1 signal is a DVD. Your ATI 550 Pro records stereo, net radio and FM radio are both just stereo (2 channel audio).

It sounds like what you're looking for is some software to generate a fake surround signal from stereo source? As ShiningDragon pointed out, some decoders do this. Some sound cards (or onboard sound) come with utilities that allow you to configure this type of behaviour. You can also achieve this using software like ffdshow audio.

hmm even fake is better then not using the speakers. Thanks for the advice.
The decoder he pointed out didnt do this but ill have to look.
I believe the fake type is called analog stereo i cant remember. Thanks Wink
EDIT: managed to get fake 5.1 for the net radio, but it still wont convert the live tv into it..which is strange since itd be doing it after my computer got the signal from the tv tuner card id think...So it could convert 2.0 to 5.1 before i get it..
Maybe it requires getting WMP to use ffdshow also first...

Hey,

I get 5.1 for all recordings using AC3 filter (download from source forge)
It upsamples all audio to 5.1, and works well. ( just set the output type to 5.1)

You can also do a normal SPDIF passthrough of AC3 / DTS signals, but you have to change the settings (settings are in control panel)

Thanks

You have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS card. This gives you four options:
1) Enable CMSS1 in EAX Console. This will use the additional speakers very subtlely. I'm not sure if it upmixes Dolby Surround (in a 2-channel source) because I already use a Pro-Logic receiver.
2) Enable CMSS2 in EAX Console. This will make more use of the additional speakers, but it applies things such as reverb and so might sound a bit naff with TV.
3) Use an audio decoder that does upmixing via something like Pro-Logic II or CMEI.
4) The fourth, and mostly unknown option, is to set your audio decoder to use SPDIF passthrough. This will work on the Audigy 2 ZS even if you are using analogue speakers (provided that it is set correctly in AudioHQ), and will let the card itself upmix, and in this case you do actually get Dolby Surround (i.e. Pro-Logic) decoding.

Hmm ill have to experiment,
as of now i get surround sound on my games as usual, now i get fake surround on net radio and fm radio, and i get fake on recordings ( with a sort of echoey distance effect. But when watching live nothing.
I think i have everything in Step 1 enabled. And set 2.
For what i have no im using ffdshow now, and that uses pro logic.
Im not sure how to do a SPDIF passthrough but that sound like the best way . I ll mess with that now.
