I could use some help setting up my 500MCE. When trying to watch Live tv, all I get on most channels is static. Some channels do come through, but they usually have audio that sounds likes its playing to fast and the video goes in and out.
I have followed the setup guide on the wiki, as well as installed the latest drivers from the Happauge website and the decoder found on their as well. I also have the cyberlink decoder as well. Playing with the various playback tab seems to have no effect. Any ideas?

What country are you in, and what EPG are you using?

Thats strange. Its not common for USA.

If you run the tuning assistant, do you see the channels you expect?

I'm seeing some of the channels I expect as it runs, buy only the lower channels around 40 or so and above I get nothing but static. The ones I do see tend to be either fairly washed out.

Have you used any other software to confirm you really have additional channels available? Some cable networks only carry 40 or even less analog channels.

That could be several things, probably your video decoder. Dont worry about solving this until you fixed your tuning problem.

I'm watching a neighbor's tv right now on channel 56, also using analog. The channel limit for my service is a little higher than that.

Are they using a cable set top box though?

I think you should download the Hauppauge WinTV software and check.

No, they are not using a cable box. I just tried autoscanning using Hauppauge channel configurator and it turned up no channels as well. It also had similar visual results to the tuning assistant.

I dont really have any suggestions for you, but given the Hauppauge application is also not find the extra channels, I'm at least confident its not GB-PVR at fault. (sorry, I know that doesnt really help - but it sets my mind at ease a little)
