GBPVR doesn't start up if configured as a client either streaming or file sharing. Is there any other setup needed for client configuration? Not sure what the hell is going on:

I have GBPVR installed under an account called "PVR" that doesn't require a password. That doesn't seem to work for this new client thing, so I created an account on both client and server called RemoteUser with a password but it still fails... when i log on as RemoteUser, GBPVR wasn't installed for that account Sad I will not set a password for the generic "PVR" account because of WAF.

What else is needed for this to work... any step by step instructions anywhere?

I made a little headway... I shared out the directory:
C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr

as \\server\gbpvr

and now the client starts up.

I guess I should explain my setup. I have a dedicated box by the TV that we watch TV through and record with (the server). Upstairs my wife and I have two computers that are the clients. Now what we'd like to do is watch pre-recorded shows or, more importantly, watch shows that are currently recording on the server. Will new client feature allow this? Right now if I try to play show (from the client) that is currently recording on the server), I get a screen that looks like snow with black and white bars. If I try Live TV, I get a msg that it's switching to time-shift mode and it stays there for 20-30 seconds then errors out with "failed to communicate with recording service"

Sorry, I was just about to suggest there was something wrong with your share...

Yes it will, I've done this heaps of times over the last month. You need to play the recording from the Recordings Screen though.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

here's the logs. Thanks for taking a look.

BTW both installs on client and server are fresh vanilla installs.

I'd probably need two zip files, one with the logs from the client, and one with the logs from the server.

Also, immediately after you get the error, check the GBPVRRecordingService.exe process is still listed in the servers task list.

I checked the server logs and nothing was being logged to any of them when I would try something from the client. Got me thinking maybe Window's Firewall was blocking it. Sure enough, disabled the firewall on the server and I can watch live TV and recordings on the client. So I'm assuming TCP 1809 and 7967 are the only two ports I should open up for it? or is there some others I should open also?

Thanks.

If you're using the streaming mode, then 7967 is the only one used on the server machine for streaming. You'll probably find 1809 is local client port which can end up being just about anything, but shouldnt cause your firewall any problems.

Glad to hear its working for you.

This was the #1 reason for upgrading from 95.xx Smile But wireless 54G isn't quite up to the task for this... got the green light from the "boss" to hardwire the PVR downstairs up to our office Wink 1000' spool of 5e, here we come.

Thanks for the help.

Some users have indicated they had decent performance with 802.11G and the streaming mode, but they needed to bump up the read-cache size. You can edit this setting in config.xml on the client machine. The default is <ClientModeCachedReadSize>49152</ClientModeCachedReadSize>. Try setting it to 64K or maybe a bit higher.

802.11G should be able to handle it no problems with a higher cache setting. I was damn near able to get streaming to work with 802.11b with a 96k cache setting. I would get a big stutter every couple of seconds, and that was with a 10Mbps connection (some interference was preventing me from getting a full 11).

Sub, have you played with the wireless MPV yet? Just wondering how well it works with running the GBPVR menus and OSD and such over a wireless 802.11G connection. Thanks.
