First of all I have to apologize for not being active on forum lately, my wife sent me to GBPVR de-tox to address my forum addiction. But now that summer is over I should be able to start getting my "fix" again.

I recently installed the latest and greatest 98.8b and wow, some really nice changes. The new Hauppauge dongle supporting video in a window, the client/server, the new features in the web admin , really great stuff. Very nice work Sub.

I only have two issues that I can see and I hope someone can help. When I try to playback WMV’s I’m getting an error on the server that “tran2mvp.exe” has crashed. When I look at the log I have this entry:

21:29:05.000 INFO Log started
21:29:05.000 INFO TRANSCODING: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Lukie at the amusement park.wmv
21:29:05.000 INFO TARGET: Z:\MyTV\MVP000DFE00A2271.mpg
21:29:05.000 INFO ...
21:29:05.015 INFO T1
21:29:05.031 INFO T2.
21:29:05.031 INFO T5
21:29:05.031 INFO T6
21:29:05.031 ERROR MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Encoder not found. This is normally installed with the Hauppauge MediaMVP software, and is required to transcode a video file.

21:29:05.031 INFO T4

Oddly enough the file transcoding continues and plays fine. It works as long as I don’t close the error window on the server.

What has me confused is two things. I thought GBPvr was using FFMPEG for transcoding? And if it does not use FFMPEG for WMV’s, what do I need to fix this problem. Just reinstall the Hauppauge software? I haven’t removed it or even touched it since I installed it.

My other problem which is fairly minor has to do with MVP display on my TV. I’m using Contour as my skin and the main menu, the black “status” section has some while lines after the text. And text is slightly distorted. Example: following the “recording soon”. I have lines on the screen that look like text “ghosting” from the recording soon text. Is it a skin issue?

.AVI/.MPG4/.VOB files use ffmpeg for transcoding. .WMV has to sill use the old Trans2MVP mechanism, which relies on the Hauppauge MVP software being installed.

That said, the next release does use ffmpeg for this type of file too.

Any Idea for a timeframe ..?

I havnt decided yet. There doesnt seem to be any pressing issues requiring a new release at this stage.

So the fix is to reinstall the Hauppauge MVP software?

Looking at the error message above, I think so.
