All I can say is I won't allow GBPVR full rights through my firewall anymore. Only per session basis. The strange thing is all my settings were rearranged and my EPG was empty. I wonder why it needs server rights anyway. Other users should be careful.

What settings? I'm sure its just something you've done unexpectidly.

Quote:I wonder why it needs server rights anyway.
There is a few things it can require server rights for:

1) The recording service always acts as a server listening on port 7968 so the client can connect to it (ie, GBPVR.exe). TCP/IP is used for all communication between the front end (GBPVR.exe) and the backend (GBPVRRecordingService.exe)
2) if MVP support is enabled, then it listens on several ports to handle incoming requests from MVPs
3) it will listen one 7967 for stream media to PC clients you might have on the network
4) if web admin is enabled, it acts as a web server listening on the specified port.

These first three do not need to be able to receive requests from outside the local network, so depending on your firewall, you can configure GB-PVR to only have rights to communicate on the local subnet.

For out going communication, the following can happen:
1) requests to zap2it.com to receive TV listings
2) net radio to various internet radio stations and to shoutcast.com
3) some plugins such as the weather plugin go out to the net to retrieve the weather reports

Quote:Other users should be careful.
People should always be cautious, but I can assure you that GB-PVR contains no spyware or other malicious code.
