Hi all,

Currently I have 0.96.12 version. And am quite happy with it. It runs without any issues on a PIII 600 mhz.

Should I upgrade? Is there any significant advantage in doing so? ( i know there should be some, but would like to learn from the guys who already did so on a similar setup)

please let me know.

TIA

One advantage is if you want support from sub, he usually only gives that for the last version Wink But I guess that's not the answer you wanted...

One disadvantage is that you might have to spend some time using the above mentioned support tweaking your system back to stability....

Personally I just can't help trying the latest versions, or a new plugin or whatever, but I know my girlfriend would prefer me just to leave it the hell alone.

I'm still on the same version myself. My setup uses a tweaked version of Dottore's BlueMCE skin which isn't compatible with pretty much anything after 96.12. I'm also using My Pictures, My Videos and My Music - only My Videos is available for the latest version (and not yet in stable released form).

The Community Skin is a good workaround for the first issue, and its getting better all the time. I don't think it'll be long before the kinks are worked out and it'll be the best skin available by far. WRT to the plugins Sub has enhanced a lot of the basic plugins, but for me there is no substitute for My Videos just yet as I like to see the movie covers and move information when I'm browsing my library. I think the new version of this plugin still needs a little work, I had a lot of skin-related issues with it using the Community Skin which may or may not have been sorted out since last I tried.

In terms of what you will get in return for upgrading, navigating around the EPG and scrolling is better (which is almost worth the update in itself), you'll get the new default photo library plugin and alot of the other default plugins have had a little work. You'll also get the opportunity to run GBPVR in client/server mode which is cool.

Despite there being workarounds though and new features I want, I still haven't upgraded - every machine I've tried the 98.x on has had stuttery Live TV playback. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it and its basically so bad I can't use GBPVR for Live TV. For now I'm using MCE2005 and loving it.

Thanks for the replies.

EPG Guide : Well, if upgrading to the new version will result in an better EPG I am all for it. Some time back I asked qns on EPG : http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post107479 , has this been addressed in the new version?

Live TV: Currently I dont have an issue with it Smile

Client/Server model : How is this different from previous implementations?

BTW, does anybody know where I can get older verisons of GBPVR? I would like to get installation files for 0.96.12. Just in case. I have deleted the older installtion files Sad

Please let me know.

If you're happy with .96.12, stay there. I tried to upgrade from that version to 98.08 and my installation blew up. I had to uninstall and then install .98.08 fresh. Still isn't working quite stable. Occasionally either gbpvr.exe or the recordingservice.exe will peg the CPU 99%. Evidently my USB-UIRT is to blame. Still can't figure out a fix for that, since it worked flawless prior to the upgrade. So then last night I figure I'll try 98.13 (or whatever the latest is at this moment) to see if maybe someting Sub tweaked in that version would help my issue... now i have stuttering Live tv playback  Every 2-3 seconds, the video will 'hitch'. I got fed up trying to watch yesterday's race so I just went upstairs and watched it on the antenna. Rolleyes

If it wasn't for that darn new client feature that my wife likes so much, i'd be back to .96x in a heartbeat.

PM me if you need any version since like .23, i've saved them all for this very occasion.
