I'm using XDVD to watch DVD's on the MVP. Last night I tried to watch my first DVD. Everything started out fine but when I tired to skip forward and back it jumped all over the place. Pausing showed that the movie was something like 9 hours long and it showed that I was watching about 8 hours into the movie after it had just started. Finally I got back to where I was in the movie and I let it be.

Just wondering if this is normal operation for XDVD. Is it possible to skip around using this plugin? Do I need to tweak something to get it to work?

Thanks,
pBS

that's vlc's funky mpeg encoding...one thought is to try using mpeg1 format as i think those skip ok and you really can't tell the difference at same size/bitrates..
or you could use the mencoder option as it looks better and is faster i think..Smile
there should be lots of help with that on the forums, do search...
[actually, should be in the xdvd support thread]
i wish they'd fix that bug in vlc as it's mpeg2 output isn't compliant...

i haven't messed with it in a while, but may want to try to change the output muxer bitrate in vlc manually to get the timeline working..just a thought..Smile

just tried the newest releases an dwhile they've fixed the final timecodes after encode, during encode, still says wrong time duration..
went to the forums and see several qurestions about it but no answers at all...
seems they don't care much about he transcoding parts,concentrating mostly on the play and ts and streaming parts..

after several releases, it still doesn't work right so i don't use for transcode anymore...files are too whack..

use mencoder, it outputs perfect files nad is ok fast, decent quality...
[can even do subtitles!}

I took a quick look at mencoder. It looks like it is a player, is this correct? I use Media Player Classic to play files on the computer. Is this an alternate to that or does it do streaming like VLC.

I'm trying to play DVD's from the hard drive through the MVP using GBPVR and the XDVD plugin. Is it possible to do this with mencoder instead of VLC?

Thanks for the help
