I almost exclusively restart the GBPVR service with the config, starting that up and clicking OK. I do it this way otherwise the little MVPTrayIcon (the simple little utility) doesn't show up in the tray.

Quite often, the secondary "Information" window that pops up after you click OK on the config will turn white and hang with a "Not responding" after which the config window does the same. I then have to manually close it and click "End Now". It doesn't do it all the time and if I go through the process again immediately after, GBPVR then restarts perfectly normally (every time) and works just fine after it occurs.

I attach the logs from just after aborting with End Now, and before a successful restart.

Very occasionally, I also get the error below, which occurred after I turned off the service and dropped in your GBPVR.exe fix for my scrolling problem (in the gbpvr directory). I don't know if they are related.

Sorry to do a bump, but do you have any clues on this one?

The first problem looks familiar to me.:o It happens to me when I try to restart the recservice through config when it is locked up by the ewa. I reported this some time ago (with the 98.08 introduction I think).
EWA locks up the recservice when I cancel a recording from it. Strange thing is it only happens after a while. What I mean is: I start a recording, ok. If I cancel it within a few mins everything is fine. When I want to cancel it after ~ 30 mins, it locks up the recservice. Nothing in the logs so therefore I haven't been nagging about it (and I don't really need it). Tried several things: re-install gbpvr, .Net2, IIS, etc.

OK sub, no worries, just wasn't sure if you'd seen it.

HtV, perhaps we can troubleshoot this together, via UncleJohns Band?

HtV Wrote:EWA locks up the recservice when I cancel a recording from it. Strange thing is it only happens after a while.
HtV, how do you know (i.e. how can I tell) the EWA is running? It doesn't have an exe or anything, (mine doesn't happen when EWA is running AFAIK).

k.

[]EDIT]HtV: Tried Process Explorer. Nothing there. Should I check the Computer Admin.?

Afaik the ewa-server is part of the rec-service. You could turn it off in config-misc to see if it makes any difference. I don't have any problems with EWA running. Only when I want to do something (cancel or delete a recording) it will lockup the rec-service. But maybe it's a good idea to take this thread to the EWA-forum. how do we do that?:o

I tried turning EWA off - no joy, same error :-(

I looked in Event Viewer. It doesn't seem to be UN-loading GBPVR's recording service...??
Here are 3 separate instances of the same error:

Code:
Failed to stop service. System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot process request because the process (2716) has exited. at System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessHandle(Int32 access, Boolean throwIfExited) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Kill() at GBPVR.RecordingService.x2636c7dc33a3e19d.x93ac37e10ab7f00e() at GBPVR.RecordingService.x116139cea0d00aa9.OnStop() at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.DeferredStop() For more information, see Help and Support Center at ======================================================= Failed to stop service. I also attach a screen capture of the Application Event Viewer which shows 2 separate sets of the Error occurring, each followed immediately by a successful config start-up (after I manually close the "End Now" crashes of these instances.)

You could try the attached patch. I'm not 100% sure its binary compatible with v0.98.13, so backup your original file first.

Let me know how you get on.
