UJB,

Sorry for the convoluted redirection, but HtV has possibly isolated an error which I have also been afflicted with, concerning restarting the recording service. HtV notes this MAY be affected by EWA. Could I ask you to peruse this thread including the posted errors and see if we can provide you any additional information which might help determine if indeed it is related to EWA?

Ta!

k.

Ok, thanks JK.

Edit: I want to add the following: I'm not convicedc at all that the errors (of JKsmurf and me) are related. I just noticed that it looked the same because the rec-service locked up. But the fact that JK's error also occurred if he switched off EWA makes me think his error is a complete other one than mine.
We'll see if somehing comes out of all this.

Is the recording service running under the local system account or have you attached it to a local user account.

A long time ago I had some weird errors arise with the recording service....as soon as I switched it to a local user account in the admin group I stopped having problems.

If memory serves me correctly this was sporadic and not all users had issues.....bit those that did having it run under a local account fixed the problem.

I haven't run mine under the local system account for well over a year....probably closer to two years.

I would recommend trying this and seeing what happens.

I have it running under a local user account with admin-privileges.:o
Stupid thing is there is nothing in any logs, or in system event viewer.
Gotta go to bed now, working tomorrow.

I sent a PM to MajorHositility to see if he is going to release a .Net 2.0 version of the MVPTray Icon utility......I am thinking having a mix match between the two can cause issues.....you would have gbpvr running within the .net 2.0 environment and then the MVPTray Icon running in the .Net 1.1 environment.....If I remember correctly everything that works together should be running in the same .Net environment....

I'll let you know what he comes back with.

Hmmm, in Task manager (presumably this is where I look) both GBPVR and GBPVRRecordingService are running under "System". Only the Tray is local ??? This has more on local too.

HtV, yes they may well be unrelated!

Wow, I never thought it might be the MVPTrayIcon, maybe I should disable that and try it out!

I'm not running mvp-tray-icon. It doesn't work under a user-account. It can't interact with the desktop then.
edit: I meant: it doesn't work with the rec-service under a user account.

Thought of something else: Is there a difference in closing down IE (to shut down EWA) or logging out from EWA. I always just cloose down IE.

Htv....are I see from the other thread you have reinstalled things including.....IIS. Are you accsing the EWA via IIS or are you using the integrated web server that comes with GBPVR?

I use the integrated webserver. I installed IIS, just as a wild shot, I had read ShiningDragons experiences with IIS so I thought I'd try. What puzzles me most (but might aswell give a lead to the solution) is that the first few mins after I schedule a recording I can cancel ok but after ~30 mins EWA locks up the rec-service.
I have to add, its always a recording in progress I try to cancel. I'll try some other scenarios aswell. The testing is very time consuming.Sad
Thanks again for thinking about it.
