Hi,

This might be a little bit out of topic, but I am struggeling to get the setup for Web Admin to work. The reason its being out of topic is because it is now all related to how I should set it up on my network. I.e, I have it all working from localhost.

I have searched the forum, but all threads assumes, to me, a great deal of knowledge related to network set up. There is talk about forwarding ports, opeing firewalls, dnssetup, tunneling, ssh, etc, etc. What I need is someone to give me the basics, sort of a step by step guide. I know that it differs from router to router, but my setup is as follows.

1. Web Admin activated in GBPVR config using port 7647.
2. I am able to reach web admin from the machine where everything is setup, both using "localhost:7647" and "192.168.0.151:7647" which is the LAN assigned IP.
3. I am NOT able to reach web admin from the other computer I have on my LAN.
4. I have in my router set up a virtual server "Virtual Server GBPVR 192.168.0.151 TCP 7647/7647 always " which also entered a entry in the firewall setting "Allow Virtual Server GBPVR WAN,* LAN,192.168.0.151 TCP,7647 "
5. I have also tried accessing using the "real assigned WAN IP" but with no luck.

So here is where I turn to you. Please let me know what I am missing or if additional info is needed. My router is a D-Link 624+ if that would help.

Many thanks,

Do you have a firewall on the server machine as well? Microsoft is known to sometimes turn on the firewall after an update.

HtV, that did the trick. Sometimes someone have to point out the most obvious to make it work. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!11

However, I am still not sure how to handle dynamic IPs from my ISP, I.e., how can I contact my server externally if it constantly changing?

Most routers now support updating to a dynamic dns service provider.

I use dyndns.org.

Go to that site and create a free account.
Then setup your router to to update your dydns.org account.*
Then on your router you need to port forward 7647 (and 7648 if you are using VLC Streaming) to your gbpvr host machine.
Then to access from outside your network you use:

http://yourDydns.org.name:7647/gvbpvr/guide.aspx

*If your router dose not support updating a dynamic IP service then you can use a client on the gbpvr server that will keep your dyndns.org account up to date. I used this one (small footprint).

Dyndns.org works very well, however if you use the free account you have to "renew" it every ~6 weeks. You get noticed for that by email.
I now use no-ip.org, it doesn't have a "renew" policySmile . And it has some very nice extra's. e.g extra adresses you can make to link to whatever url's etc. Works very nice. I use it to start up my system via my draytek router, etc etc.

I have had it for many years and never renewed anything......I have heard of no-ip.org but had no use for it.....
