Is there a plugin i'm not seeing that will allow me to play avi's, or other encoding other than mpg through gbpvr?

avi should play, no problem. you may need to download the divx codec, as this is quite common in files with an avi extension.

2 any one who needed the answer. this allows me to watch all my different downloaded videos through gb-pvr. It does take some system resources, so beware with slow pc.

I had to stop using ffdshow because, after watching an AVI, I could not get back to the gbpvr menu - just got a black screen. I had to use the XviD decoder instead.
If this is not happening to you can you please tell me what version of ffdshow you are using?
TIA

I downloaded it about a week ago. filename is 'ffdshow-20020617.exe' (downloaded 6/26). make sure under gbpvr config, playback tab, on bottom right, 'use FFDSHOW post-processing if installed' check box is checked. gb-pvr is v.99.12. Make sure 'Software MPEG-4 Playback: Video Decoder'(on same tab) is set to 'ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder', and 'Video Renderer' is set to 'VRM9'. Worked first time for me, no problems since.

Actually,

You can just use FFDSHOW for non-mpeg2 content.
No need to check post processing either in GBPVR.
That setting is just for MPEG2 recordings & DVD's & it does use up some resources.

If you want, you can use the MPEG2 decoder with FFDSHOW without post processing.

When I install FFDSHOW I make sure not to choose exclusive apps that can only use it & I also just select the type of video files .xvid, .avi, .mkv ect that I will be watching.

then I configure the settings (deblocking, scaling, ect) in FFDSHOW video set-up.

I can get a 1.2 ghz P3 to scale my smaller .avi files up to 720x480 & deblock them without tanking the CPU.

In postprocessing there is a max cpu setting that keeps the CPU from Tanking.

Thank you - Cannot really make out which version that it - mine shows as ffdshow-2546-gcc4.0.3-sse.exe.
But I will try a new version to see if that sorts the issue I was having.
I don't want to use ffdshow for mpeg2 - just for AVI's played through the 'Video library'.

Yes I was not intending to use ffdshow for mpeg2 decoding nor mpeg2 post-processing I am very happy with my current choices for them.
I just want to go back to ffshow for mpeg-4 content - I agree it gives great results. ( I have temporarily reverted to XviD to play both xvid and divx files).I only had to stop using it because of the problem I had playing avi's in the video library - they played fine but afterwards I could not get back to the menus in gbpvr. Will try a newer version & see what happens.
