I have seen quite a few posts about this issue, but could not find any resolution.

I have a new H2 MediaMVP (with the undocumented SPDIF output). The colors on my Toshiba/CRT/27" are bad: over saturated (red especially) and dark.

Is there any way to overcome this issue? Can post-processing help? How?

Thanks,
Guy.

Some people have this - I'm not sure why, but it tends to affect them on MVP software, not just GB-PVR. Unfortunately I have no control over the color, so you just get whatever default color is generated by the MVP.

I struggled with this as well for a long time with my MVP especially the darkness issue, the redness I just adjusted the settings on my TV till I was happy.

You can make anything you record more watchable by adjusting the settings for brightness and contrast in the direct.ini file, but anything downloaded off the net will still be dark.

What has completely fixed it for me in the end (after LOTS of experimenting) is running the MVP through my home theater amp 1st via svideo. This has made a world of difference and allowed me to set the settings in the direct.ini back to defaults and anything off the net is now as I'd expect.

Hope that helps

This whole color/saturation & brightness issue is why my MVP has been collecting dust bunnies for the last 5-6 months...

I can only hope someone will hack the firmware (based on busybox), and give us this adjustment...

I've successfully used the software Hauppauge Tweak Tool to alter the recorded picture properties of my PVR-150 tuners during the recording process so the resulting recorded video played back on my TV through the MVP looks quite good.

If you read some write-ups about Hauppauge Tweak Tool, it says to make the changes, then reboot, then repeat, etc. In my particular case, I could see the tweak changes and their effects real-time as I tweaked the numbers on my PVR-150 watching a live MVP TV feed which let me get it quite good.

Unfortunately, these changes have no effect when viewing video on the MVP from sources other the tuner card and it'll quite likely make recordings and live TV look worse on your PC monitor if you use GBPVR that way often.

Perhaps someday, Hauppauge will provide software adjustments for the MVP picture and then sub could add the code to GBPVR to make the adjustments.

I've found my MVP's picture gets darker the longer I use it.
I used it for about 6 hrs the other day while sick in bed & by hr 4 it went almost completly dark.

Reseting it didn't work either.
It seemed I had to just let it cool off for little bit & then it worked fine again.

Read my reply about the black and white.

Your MVP is dying. If it's warrented, get it replaced.

I don't know if it's black & white all I get is a shadow & it looks like the scene is in the dark.

Either way though, I've had if for longer than 90 days.
I also bought it from the radio shack clearance for $30 and as far as I know their out of them.

If it's on it's way out then I can atleast say it served it's purpose.
I have a nice quiet older dell I can install for DVD & xvid playback.

Thank you all for the input.
particle - I will give it a shot. I did try routing it through my home theater system using a video cable with no change. I will try it again with S-video and let you know. Did you use S-Video to the HT system and then S-Video from the HT to the TV?

Thats right, svideo from MVP to AMP then svideo from Amp to TV. I used reasonable quality cables, middle of the range I guess.
