How do you(if you have a FX5200-card) setup your output and playback options in the config to get the best picture?

Also: which videodecoder are you using?

It seems i get the best picture if i use WMR9 or custom, but it often crashs when i want to play some recordings(nothing in the logs)...

It is not possible to give any advice as it depends on what kind of DirectShow codec/decoder you have installed and how well the (video card) driver support these connection. You can use Gspot to see what version of DirectShow filters/codec/decoder you have on your system and how they are registered in windows. Gspot will also show you some data from the media file you want to play if you open it with Gspot.

GraphEdit are another tool that can show you how different filter are connected and edit these. In the end your performance will depend on how well you screen can reproduce picture (color/resolution and frequencies) and video hardware support. Nvidia have PureVideo that should support video hardware, but you will need to buy that software if you want it to take advantage of the full support from nvidias video cards. I think you will find overlay to be the best support for you system, but then you will lack support for on screen display (OSD) as this use WMR.

About your crashes:

You might want to open recorded files in another player then GBPVRs if you have problem with crashes only related to play recorded files. PowerDVD -it is often a free ware part sold with video cards hardware - (Cyberlink software/decoder) can handle DirectShow rather well (DXVA support=hardware support) and could be a good viewer. You can also change Config.exe from tray bar and set it to use Cyberlinks decoder instead if "default" or "FFDSHOW" doesn't work as it should.

Thank you very much, blizard.
I think i will dig a little deeper with Gspot.

How can i let GBPVR use Cyberlink as player?

Afaik, you can't, what blizard means is to open a recorded mpg file in powerDVD to see if it plays fine or crashes. when powedvd is installed, you can try to switch to the cyberlink decoder in the gbpvr config, so gbpvr will use this

I use the same card and have the purevideo codecs. They seem to work best for me while watching mpeg2. DVD's play flawless -- however while watching live tv I do get some studdering, and glitches, most visable while watching something with a scrol at the bottom like news or sports. I would recommend downloading the trial of the purevideo codecs and see how they work for you. Depending on the type of capture card you are using they may work flawlessly. Using a pvr150 I go get flawless playback, only with dvb do I get the studdering.

Ok btothec. Do you use WMR9 or Overlay Manager ?

I have a 5200fx. I've gotten the best result with the following

Forceware 71.89 Download

The GPL Mpeg 1/2 -decoder Download

The AC3Filter for audio decoding Download

Yes it may seem like some of these files are older but they work fantastic. On my p4 1.6 it takes about 40%-60% CPU to play video but it's flawless and never skips or gets blocky.

I've tried about 20 different driver/Codec configs and I found this one works the best.

I am happy for you Stephen! Smile

Different system have different way to handle same software according to what I wrote in the first post here.

In general will "older" software support old hardware better as it is trimmed to take advantage of its feature at that time. New hardware might make these changes less optimal and therefore could it be better to stay on what worked well at that time.

Just trying to help support a great product. That's what I love about this program. It supports so much and I swear sometimes it more fun to tweak on the settings than it is to watch the TV it records.

If you run a bargin basement system like mine I'd recommend trying my settings and you should get a no frills rock solid system. It will do what it's suppose to and do it everytime.

Let me know if this helps you.
