I set up the client machine, and the recordings and live TV play great across the network. The mapped drive, which links to remote saved videos, configured under directories however plays them very stuttering. If I attempt to play the same video from the Run command or Explorer, the video plays fine in VLC or BSPlayer. I verified if I played the video locally within GBPVR the problem does not occur.

Other than synchronize the videos to a local client repository -- what can I try?

Recordings and Live TV use GB-PVR's streaming support from a client pc. The video library etc just let directshow use normal components as though it was playing locally, so there isnt really much you can tweak. It should be the same as playing the file from the share in Windows Media Player.

Are you on a slow link? ie wireless?

I had some of this across the network. I forget what it turned out to be, but it was some windows function that was causing it. Something like the hidden "defreg drives when idle", or the normal defreg program that was set to run as needed.

Anyway, look for somethign subtle like this, too.

Flack Wrote:I recently installed GB-PVR (and love it) but have registered at the forum because of this same issue.

In my living room I have my GB-PVR machine. (Windows XP, Athalon 3000+, 2GHZ, 512 RAM, 802.11g Wireless.) Upstairs is my file server (Similar specs.) The wireless connection shows "Full connection, 100% Strength" at 54mbit.

On GB-PVR I added a video directory that points to a file share on the file server which is full of music videos in MPEG format. When I try to play these over the wireless network, I get really bad stuttering.

Like the OP, I copied the file over to the GB-PVR machine and it plays fine, so it's not a problem with the file. I have disabled antivirus/firewalls on both machines and it makes no difference in the performance, so it's not that. Here's the weird part. If I exit GB-PVR and stream the file over the wireless network by watching it with Windows Media Player, the video plays just fine.

I actually have another 512 meg stick of RAM that I could toss in the GB-PVR machine to rule out the machine itself as being the weakest link. In my mind I'm thinking maybe Windows Media Player has a larger buffer or something, which smooths the playback? I don't know if that's true or not. The fact that one program can do it (WMP) but the other can't (GB-PVR) makes me think it's not a wireless bandwidth issue, but I'm not sure.
Streaming video wirelessly is not ready for prime time, go wired and your stuttering will go away.
