Hi,

My GB-PVR won't play mpeg or realmedia (rm, ram) files. I have the k-lite mega codec pack installed and all my other media players (WMP, WMP classic etc.) will all play the files. I don't understand why gb-pvr won't.

Any help appreciated.

When you it cant play them, what happens when you try?

Regarding the difficulties playing .mpg files, what video decoder do you have selected in the playback tab of the config app? If its 'system default', I'd recommend using one of the other options you have a available. If this doesnt help, zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

When I try and playback either of these filetypes, it kinda freezes for a few seconds then I can move up and down the menu again as normal. I've tried changing the decoder to all the available ones (nero, mainconcept, cyberlink) and it makes no difference.

Which log files do you need?

I found the following in gbpvr.exe-1.log (I've changed the name of the mpeg):

Code:
01/01/2007 17:03:05.093    VERBOSE    [1]    About to play file: D:\My Videos\video.mpeg

Hope this helps.

You'll need to zip and attach both the gbpvr.exe.log and the gbpvr-exe.native.log files.

Do you fare any better when you play a file recorded by GB-PVR?

I know this one is not one GB-PVR recorded, since it would normally have the .mpg extension rather than the .mpeg extension that file had.

I'm not sure because I don't do any recording with gb-pvr at the moment. I figured I'd do that when I had a better freeview signal as mine is really bad at the moment.

It is the same story with rm.

Its unusual to have that file extension. I'm guessing that there is something funny about that .mpeg file, which is why I was suggesting trying a .mpg file that I knew should be good.

It's the same story with any mpeg file I try on my disk. I just tried another couple that came with the .mpg extension and it had the same effect.

To emulate what GB-PVR does, to see if you get the same problem, you could download GraphEdit (google for it), then choose the 'Render Media File' from the menu and select your .mpg file. It would normally generate a graph of directshow filters, and when you click the play button you'd normall see video and hear the audio.
