I have the latest GBPVR and WebAdmin. Didn't do any recording tonight but I usually keep Web Admin up to keep an eye on the TV guide every so often. I have noticed on a fresh boot that GBPVRRecording service is sitting somewhere under 100meg, not a problem. I haven't touched GBPVR or Web Admin for several hours. I notice the machine slowing down, look at the recording service and it's at 245M! Yeow! I peek in Web Admin to make sure I hadn't recorded anything. Check back at the memory usage and find the recording service is down to 45M. It wouldn't be a problem if I had 2G but I only have 1G and keep it moderately full.Any ideas why it goes so high when it isn't doing anything or why it would suddenly jump back down like that?

I'm not aware of any memory leaks, but the recording service can use a lot of memory, particularly if you've got a lot of channels and/or a large number of days worth of listings (usually US users, often with DishNetwork or similar).

GB PVR uses quite a bit of memory during the EPG update under these conditions. When its finished it frees that memory....but...the way .net memory management works means that .net doesnt bother releasing the memory back to Windows, until Windows informs .net it's running critically low. It does this because its working on the assumption it'll need it again at some stage so no point in returning it to Windows unless needed.

Quote: Check back at the memory usage and find the recording service is down to 45M...<snip>...why it would suddenly jump back down like that?
Task manager is a bit deceptive if you're using it to monitor this memory usage. You'll see the same thing if you start GB-PVR in window mode then check memory usage (about 50MB), then minimize the GB-PVR and the memory usage will be reported as about 5MB or something similar.

Hi

noticed similar with the recording service. Using perfmon on the recording service. It's not recording anything (nothing scheduled until later tonight) no epg update, just playing some music, and notice the recording service rising in memory use. About 10 Mb per 30 seconds.... I've been watching it for a while, and haven't seen it drop yet.

I noticed a patch for build 54 of Web Admin that adresses a memory leak, see http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...t=ewa+leak

it might be the problem, but im using build 53 that comes with the latest GBPVR release and so havent had to use this.

Hope it helps though.
