Despite having installed the hotfix described in the survival guide I'm still getting more and more of these 'Attempted to read or write protected memory' errors:

2007-08-16 13:37:00.640 ERROR [5] Error starting recording: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
at NativeUtilities.ConexantRecorder.StartRecording(String cardType, ConexantRecordSource recordingSource, Int32 qualitySetting, Int32 board, String filename, Int32 channel, Int32 countryCode, Int32 tuningType, Boolean useStreamingEngineIfAvailable, Boolean previewMode, Boolean fmRadioMode, Boolean fmRadioPreviewMode)

at GBPVR.RecordingService.x93f60a55016d55c4.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()

I'm running AVG A/V so I think I'll disable that for a short while and see if it goes away - is anyone else running AVG?
Are there other reasons for this error?
I'm running 1.0.16 on XP.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Reproduce the problem, then zip adn attach attach the logs and I'll take a look.

This isnt related to any error listed in the survival guide. The antivirus one I think you're referring to has a different message.

Hi Sub

Logs attached.
There is one occurrence in these logs, at 13:37 on the 15th.
Restarting the Rec. Service resolves the problem.
I can't be certain, but I get the feeling this error occurs if someone has watched live TV, which we don't often do. If it's just doing scheduled recordings it seems far more stable.
Thanks for you help, if it misses recording Neighbours one more time I'm in big trouble! Thankfully(?) it's on twice a day so I check it after the first one and if it's failed I've still got a chance to make sure it works for the second showing.

Keep up the good work, life without GBPVR (and numerous recordings of Neighbours, Bob The Builder, Thomas the Tank etc.) would be a nightmare.

Sorry, I'm not really sure. There isnt an obvious cause in the logs.

I'm sure you spotted the deliberate mistake but I said it was 13:37 on the 15th when it should have been 16th.
Thanks for looking anyway - I'll let you know if I solve it.

Hi

I'm still getting these errors and I'm no closer to figuring it out.
What I can say now is that the error has never occured when it is simply recording scheduled programmes however it happens about 80% of the time if we watch live TV. So what is the difference? Both of my two tuners are used for scheduled records OK.
I resorted to creating a check that runs every 3 minutes which scans the logs for the error and restarts GBPVR if found. I do not need to reboot the machine, a simple Recording Service restart clears the error. The problem is caused when live TV is stopped but the error doesn't show in the logs until the next attempt to view live TV or make a scheduled recording. Is live TV not releasing something that it should?
These errors started in v0.9x and have remained through my upgrades to the latest v1.1.5.
Do you have any idea why it's only live TV that causes the problem?
We only use MVPs and run the mvpmc dongle.

Thanks for looking, if there is anything you can think of before I resort to a full system rebuild I'd be most grateful.

Hi

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread of mine but over the last couple of days the WAF has taken a beating because she is pregnant and taking it easy, which involves a fair amount of watching live daytime TV!
We had learned to work around this issue by never watching live TV - as discussed before the error never occurs if the server is simply recording scheduled programs and live TV is not used. However, if live TV is watched then chances are it will blow up then next time it tries to record a program, even if live TV was stopped before the scheduled recording time.
I have an exe that runs every 3 mins looking for the error and restarting the recording service if it is found. The problem is that there is no indication that the recording has failed. The logs indicate that the recording service believes the recording completes successfully just after the error occurrs but I'm assuming that as no mpg is created the entry soon gets removed from the database?
I'm not sure what else I can add. Since my last post on this I have done a clean GBPVR install, upgraded to 1.2.9 and upgraded the Hauppauge drivers.
If anyone can think of anything I could try I'd (she'd!) be most grateful.
Logs attached and thanks in advance.

Just wondering: I saw that you have 5 mvp's, that'll take quite a lot of memory. Maybe try what happens with only 1 or 2 mvp-servers started.

Also (as a way of managing the problem you are having), you can get the recording service to auto-restart on failure via the config in windows services.

at least for me, it appears that a similar error truely was a memory problem... and yes, for a time I was suspecting a link to LiveTV recording activity as part of the situation...
