I've read the forums and wiki, and haven't yet been able to solve my problem...

It appears that when watching on the MVP, the left and right sides of the picture are being cut off only when watching recordings.

I have tried using the MVP Position plugin, but this only appears to affect the menu and OSD, not the actual picture.

This is not a deal-breaker, just tends to be a nuisance at times when you can't see the whole picture.

Any tips are much appreciated...

GB-PVR has no control over the size of the fullscreen video. I can think of this being one of two things that might be the cause of this though:

1) If you're watching widescreen (MPG) recordings and have your MVP set to 16:9, then the MVP will center-cut the picture.

2) or some people have found their MVP entering some weird zoomed mode and getting stuck that way. Removing the power to reboot it solved this problem.

How would I know if I'm watching a widescreen recording? This is just a TV recording done through GB-PVR. It appears that I can't change the aspect ratio in the config from 4:3 anyway. Could this be part of the problem?

I'll also try pulling the power to reboot and see if that helps.

Utilities like gspot etc would tell you. If it is a recording done in GB-PVR with an analog card (like PVR150 etc), then it'll be 4:3. If it was done with a digital card it could be either 16:9 or 4:3.

The MVP aspect ratio is only displayed and able to be changed in the Hauppauge MVP software.

Thanks for the info.

It turns out that the bulk of the problem was fixed with a power off/power on. It still appears slightly cut off from a straight feed from the cable, but it is a lot better now.

Looks like the old reboot does the trick.

Thanks!

Curious: do you use a widescreen TV or a traditional 4:3 set?

If you had a widescreen TV would that entice you to add 16:9 MVP configuration ability directly to GB-PVR?

If you were to wish for a widescreen TV, is there a particular model you would like?

I 've got a widescreen TV as my main PC, but thats connected directly to a PC. My MVP is connected to a 4:3 test PC in my office.

As you found, a power cycle can fix the problem sometimes. But I have an older TV and there's just far too much overscan.

So I wrote ZProcess so that I could adjust the picture to show as much as possible, and have little cut off. It works great for non MPEG files through the MVP, and sort of all right with MPEGs (experimental)

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

This will happen whenever the MVP starts playing but you only get a black screen but with audio. When you stop and restart the play, it will be expanded. The only solution that I have found is a power cycle. The menu screens will not have changed. This has been a problem for a very long time with various software and hardware revisions.

The minor cutoff is probably just normal overscan as mentioned.

Next time you get this zoomed video, it might be worth pressing 'menu' to switch into the video windowed on main menu mode, then press 'menu' again to switch back to fullscreen. It might possibly reset this.
