Partly inspired by all the positive feedback on here, I got a PVR500... Nonetheless, I've been having a lot of issues... I can never seem to get it configured correctly... it looks like I've got it working (works a few times), then the next day I go back (perhaps after some other setting has been changed elsewhere in GBPVR), and its "broken" (i.e. when I press Live TV GBPVR just hangs and I need to reboot my machine...task manager cant kill the app, even though everything but gbpvr is responsive)...

I've tried the newest drivers I could find on hauppauge support website, but still no go... Can someone perhaps tell me what settings you guys are using? I've tried fiddling but havent gotten very far...

I'm also having a lot of trouble finding a dependable and solid DVD/.iso decoder... I've got NVidia and InterVideo installed on my machine. They both appear to work and then just stop working (i.e. videos dont play anymore.. usually I try to start an iso, I get the "WARNING" screen and then just a blank screen... moving the mouse will show only the "exit" button in these cases)... Its driving me pretty insane...

Anyways, first things first, I'd like to get the TV working... I've got a lot of doubts because there are so many options (ffdshow, no ffdshow, live tv preview, no preview, VMR9 rendered, custom rendered, and so forth) I'd like to know what the "recommended" settings are, so I can start from that and then tweak...

thanks for all help!

Next time it happens, zip attach the logs and I'll take a look.

It almost sounds like your tv problem, so the two are probably related. Usually this sort of problem would be related to the video decoders, and hopefully this will show up in your logs.

OK, here goes the TV hanging... The screen doesnt go blank, it just stays with the Live TV button highlighted, and doesnt respond anymore.

Thanks for the help! Let me see if I get something for DVDs...

Can you reset the logging level to debug, then post again?

It actually looks like something is going wrong with the PVR500 side of things. When you have this problem, does the tuning assistant work?

hmmm weird... let me try to remove the new drivers and put original hauppauge software for MCE that came with it....

When you say tuning assistant do you mean within the WinTV2000 program?

PS: now I can't go into Add capture card in config... as soon as I click "Add" the config just hangs...... Do you think this might be faulty hardware? Would 2 PVR150's be a better bet in your opinion? (At least there is the benefit of not losing all tuners if 1 board goes bad)...

No, it's a separate utility installed with GB-PVR. I was hoping to check whether the problem was also affecting other directshow apps (which the Tuning Assistant is).

That tallies up with what I was seeing in the logs. It was hanging before it actually being used. Effectively as its checking the components are present.

A PVR500 is usually fine for most people.
