OK...first, this is a fantastic product and an amazing community. I've done so much reading already. But I'm stuck on a few things.

So I have Cablevision Digital Cable with two Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4600 STB's. (though I'm currently only using one but could use both if needed). First, I can't find the IR eye for the life of me. Any thoughts on what it looks like? Note; there is no clear plastic anywhere on the front.

Secondly: I have the box and computer all setup correctly. I can record shows, but ONLY if I'm watching the shows on my TV too and changing the chanels with my Cablevision remote. I am not at this time using the tuner card, HVR 1600, to control my main television. I'm not really interested in the live stop or anything like that. I just want to schedule TV shows when I'm not there.

As it stands now, the way I have it setup, I need to go into GBPVR and schedule recordings, but then I need to make sure my STB is on the needed chanel to record. Otherwise, I may want Family Guy, but end up recording Law and Order because that's what I was watching at the time. To confirm, I'm not looking or controllling GB PVR from my TV at this point in time.

I basically want to record shows and not even think about tuning the channel, etc, etc.

Help me please? What should I do? How shall I proceed?

You'd need to add an IR blaster to you setup so that GB-PVR can automatically change channels when it needs to.

If it doesnt have an IR remote, then you may be out of luck.

My Scientific Atlanta 2200 box has the IR behind the main red lens that shows the channels and time. It is to the left of the time display. Use a good flashlight and you should be able to see it.

Here's a cost effective IR blaster http://www.irblaster.info/.
You can use it with GBPVR via winlirc to change channels. If you do get one of these, I'd save the trouble later and spring for the extra $7 and get the "Double Headed IR Blaster" anyway, in case you want to set up your other STB later. ($25 with shipping - I have one on the way Smile

If you decide to get it, let me know if you have any questions on how to set it up / config it. It can be tricky integrating it with GBPVR.
