I'm curious if I can use this setup:

I have the PVR-150 that comes with the IR-Blaster, but my PC is too far away from the Directv STB to attach the cable. I was wondering if I could use this setup:

I would place one of these units next to my PC with the PVR-150 IR-Blaster taped to the radio shack remote extender, and then put the second radio shack remote extender next to my Directv STB. Would this work?

They also make a second unit that looks like:

Am I on the wrong track, or should I purchase something different for this setup?

Thanks.

I'd be leary just because of how weak the Hauppauge IR Blaster is.. but I'd give it a shot. Keep the receipt Smile

I had the same problem that you did. I was able to remedy the problem by extending the length of the IR Blaster cable. I just bought some stereo speaker wire, cut the cable to the IR blaster in the middle, and added about 15 feet of cable in the middle. It works perfectly fine. It never makes mistakes on changing channels. If you're going to do it this way though, you should try to test out the blaster first b/c I've heard they get a lot of defective blasters. You may want to temporarily move the STB closer to your computer so you can put the IR Blaster directly on it before extending it.

Here's what I did:
- replaced the blaster LED with one from an old remote (read somewhere that the original one is not very good)
- added about 20feet of an old phone cord that I had lying around, between the new LED and the end of the blaster wire.
