Problem with reference to C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Jeff\VAPanel-MVP.log

I was checking the active file handles on my system and found my MVP processes was repeatedly trying to open the following file:

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Jeff\VAPanel-MVP.log

The system was recording a PATH NOT FOUND error for this file, but not in a log or anything... I saw this using the SysInternals File Monitor utility. Each MVP process records the error every couple of seconds.

At first blush this problem looks like a file reference left in inadvertantly during plugin development and related to the Video Archive plugin, but I don't have the VA plugin installed. I do use the Weather, Software Recorder, External Recorder and MVP Tray Icon.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what's referencing this file? I don't know that it's necessarily causing me any problems, but it does look like an error.

Hmm... I seem to have answered my own question, but now have another.

There was two files that the system was generating this error for, the file I mentioned and C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Jeff\VAPanel-PC.log. On a hunch I decided to create the Jeff subdirectory and see what happened... Bam! Both files got created.

This file (and the -MVP file) got immediately created and then writing to it stopped. It filled up with buffered messages apparently, all related to the Weather plugin. The first message has a timestamp of when I restarted my Recording Service last night, so it appears to have written all messages since restart and based on the errors I was seeing in the File Handle app, the Weather plugin repeated attempts to write these messages every couple seconds until it's successful.

I guess I'll leave the Jeff directory created letting the plugin write the data since it's gonna apparenlty keep trying anyway, but it seems like this is something that ought to be fixed.

I guess I need to make sure I'm running the latest version of the Weather plugin now. Maybe this is some old error that got fixed a long time ago.

As I recall the MVP process runs as a different user. You need to make sure that user has read.write access to the directory.

Running as a service, they run with user name SYSTEM which has full access to all the directories. But my question is why are the files being written to anyway? Is this intentional?

And if a "Jeff" subdirectory is necessary, then shouldn't the install just create it?

These messages are related to weather information being sent to the video archive panel to be displayed. If you uncheck this option in the config program they should go away. The video archive panel is included as part of the video archive plug-in.

I've updated the code to create the subdirectory if it is not present.
