Hi Everyone,

I have got the AVerMedia M780 working, and would like to share the little knowledge I have.

For the ATSC side add this to your bda.ini file
[AVerMedia M780 (ATSC)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
FILTER_TUNER=AVerMedia M780 PCIe BDA ATSC Tuner 2
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Digital Video Capture 2
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=Mpeg2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=Mpeg2 Transport

For the Analog side add this to the direct.ini file
[AVerMedia M780 (Analog)]
INIT_MODE=ECP
INIT_MSP=0
SUPPORTS_FM_RADIO=0
BLACKBIRD=1
CONEXANT=1
FILTER_CROSSBAR=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Crossbar 1
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Audio/Video Capture 1
FILTER_TV_TUNER=AVerMedia M780 PCIe TV-Tuner 1
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Audio Decoder 1
FILTER_ENCODER=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Encoder 1
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio Input
PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S Audio
PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=Analog ITU Video
PIN_ENCODER_I2S_IN=I2S Audio
PIN_ENCODER_656_IN=Analog ITU Video
PIN_ENCODER_OUT=MPEG2 Program
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

Sub feel free to add this to the next release for the really lazy folk!

Cheers - I'll include the definitions in the master files.

I'll call them [AVerMedia M780] in both these files, so you may want to rename yours for a smooth upgrade. I also changed INIT_MODE=ECP to INIT_MODE=DEFAULT, since the ECP thing is a Hauppauge thing that'll likely result in a few errors in the logs.

Hello everybody
I am thinking of purchasing a M780 to pick up the unencrypted digital cable signals carried by my local cable company, mostly the locals are unencrypted. Normally i would just use a OTA HDTV antenna but that is not a feasible option currently as I'm living in the Dorms at college and I'm on the first floor and reception for my HDTV is hit or miss.
My Question is do i need to make any changes to the configuration file like where is says "Tuning_Type=ATSC" and in any other places.
Also can any one provide any feedback as to how this card has performed for them and the quality of analog recordings that are produced.
Also if any one could give me a quick break down as to what i need to do for my box to play back the HDTV recordings, i have looked at the other info on the forums and just want to know if any of it will differ if i doing QAM vs OTA HD
Thanks

I was wondering if someone with this card could verify something. I have a Dvico HDTV Fusion Express card and I am frustrated with it, since it lacks a hardware encoder.

Does the M780 really have a hardware encoder and does not require a seperate card with a HW encoder? If it is working in GBPVR then I would assume yes it does; Just wanted to make sure.

The AverTV M780 card looks like a better product (and cheaper) than the Dvico cards. I am started to wish I had waited and bought the AverTV.

Yes it has its own hardware encoder for the Analog side (obviously the ATSC does not need it)

Can someone confirm that QAM decoding is working with this tuner? Because if it is, this is much cheaper than the OnAir tuner (which had been the only integrated option).

Thanks!

Sorry I don't have cable, but I read in some other forum that they got QAM to work, not sure that is any guarantee it will work with GBPVR.

The Microsoft BDA specification doesnt cover QAM tuning so there is no standard way of doing. Each and every device manufacturer implements it there own way. Because of this, GB-PVR can only support QAM for those cards where I've explicitly implemented the manufacturers proprietary scheme. To date it'll only work with the OnAir GT or the HDHomeRun.

I dont know anything about how AverMedia do their QAM tuning, and dont have any contacts at the company to ask.
