As title really ...

I have been getting occasional shows (4 total now) which, no matter how I try to play them (GBPVR native, Xrecord etc) cause the MVP to disconnect immediately when attempting to play them. They are normal recorded shows.

I originally thought "oh, must be a zero byte recording" and just deleted them, but recently I discovered the show WAS recorded, and I could play the whole darn thing on my PC, but NOT via the MVP.

I wil try and send logs next time I get the shows which always cause the disconnect, but I guess you'd need the first part of the file that is being played to see the difference to ones that work? Le me know, I'll try and get one or two when it happens again.

Ta,

k.

Just an idea: could there be something in the name of the file that keeps the mvp from playing it? I've had problems with that in the past I think. You might try renaming it to something simple and then play it through video-library. You should ofcourse have your rec.dir added to the video library in config.

Whoosh ... darn good thinking, batman; you know I'd truly never even THOUGHT of that (simple solutions are always the best ones... :-) ).

This happens to me when I'm running the Hauppauge dongle in NTSC mode and try to run a PAL resolution.

Martin,

It's just a normal MPEG recorded in PAL from TV. I'll have another go at mvpmc after Easter when I've reinstalled WinXP except for certain recordings that simply reboot the MVP. All otehrs are fine FF, SKIP, etc. This is why I thoought HtV's idea had merit.

Tipstir,

That's quite a list, but most of these have been done. It's stable with the latest GBPVR dongle.

tipstir Wrote:If I run PAL its cut off I have to convert MPEG into NTSC fixes the problem. Try this...
No conversion required, it's just a normal MPEG recorded in PAL from TV.

tipstir Wrote:MVP1 have someone else besides you run a show or a movie MVP2 if you have a second one run a movie.
I only have 1 MVP.

tipstir Wrote:Also turn off Comskip.exe, I find it causing problems with 99.12.
Will try that. Not sure why it would attack certian recordings though.

tipstir Wrote:You should be able to download on another network PC. Someone Printing off another network PC
??????

tipstir Wrote:two more or move MVP are in use by the family or you
I only have one.

tipstir Wrote:This sounds ideal but how good is your router wired or wireless?
Wired MVP to a WRT54GS Router with Thibor 15c in WDS Mode to another WRT54GS.

tipstir Wrote:When last did you reboot GBPVR Server, Switches or Hubs boxes. Server very recently. Routers are stable, and does not explain CERTAIN recordings going TU.

Defrag network drives etc...
Done

So I guess: no luck so far. You must have thought of this too: is there any pattern in the recordings that won't play. e.g. same station etc. You might want to run them by Gspot:
http://gspot.headbands.com/ to see if you can find any difference between working and not-working mpg's.

I have a library of videos collected from all sources - you probably saw many floating through the net (beer commercials, funny videos, etc.) the kind people send you by email often enough. Add to those some MPEG amd WMV of my own creation.
All play OK on the PC with win media player, all play ok through GBPVR at he console, but some of the videos will just abort through the MVP although (I thnk) all play thrpugh the MVP software. Someone provided a process to switch frm GBPVR to MVP and back again; I implemented that so I have a workaround, but I am curious why I cannot make it all work through GBPVR,

1. Is there a tool to quickly compare the encoding specs of all these files to try and find a pattern?
2. Why some WMV's play anothers do not? Same for MPEGs.

If it would help I can give (privately) access to the same files directly since my web server shares the same folder. They won't stream effectively because I am not setup for that, but they can be downloaded from it.

Any suggestions welcome
Marco M.

GBPVR v1.16 on Compaq P4 2.9 mhz, 1024mb, 200gb
Hupp. WinTV USB2, MVP direct connect via 100mb cross-over cable
Pc also acts as web server (using Badblue p2p swr) with USB WIFI and can be remotely accessed via UltraVNC
