This may not be GB-PVR related, but I thought I would ask the community for help anyway. My computer started crashing repeatedly in the last week. Every time the minidump file points to nv4_mini.sys which is the Nvidia card driver. This happens mostly when trying to play a file, regardless of type. The error in the minidump is

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP_M (1000007f)

I have researched all over the web, installed the most recent Nvidia drivers, removed components, and even opened my computer case to diagnose the problem unsuccessfully. At this point I think it is a hardware failure in the graphics card, it is about 18 months old, and I am ready to order a new one.

What do you guys think? Thanks.

It sounds like nvidia driver to me. You could try switching renderer, overlay vs VMR vs VMR9 Custom, since these use different parts of the video card drivers and you may find your problem behaves differently.

Otherwise I'd look into older versions of the nvidia drivers, and/or think about heat/power issues.

Do you have a system restore point before the crashes?
If so, you might consider restoring to that point and see if the system still behaves erratically or not.

I did restore to a prior state, when I was not having the issue, but the issue continues to happen.

Sub, Thanks for the suggestion. However, nothing really changed in my setup, including temp of the motherboard and hard disks. The problem seems to correlate with high resolution HD content. I will try the different video renders and see how it goes.

Maybe try a different nvidia driver. Also I had a problem with a gfx card and it turned out to be dust on the heatsink, not enough to visibly be noticable but a quick clean and all was fine again.

I had a heck of time upgrading my nvidia drivers to the latest version.
I kept getting crashes & lock-ups when trying to play video.
Not sure if it was the same error.

Anyways, I wound up downloading something called driver cleaner.
Ran that, rebooted & thne installed my new drivers & everything has been good since then.

I have replaced the graphics card and life is back to normal. Same driver as before, but no more crashes.
