Hi,

I recently installed the 9.0b quartz.dll after carefully reading this thread and following the instructions: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5600 to try and see if it would solve some stuttering I had noticed with GB-PVR recordings. The computer was working fine AFTER I installed the quartz.dll, rebooted, watched and recorded some shows.

However, the morning after (Apr 3 or 4, I think), I noticed Windows update showed a critical update needed to be installed. I was debating whether the update notification may have been triggered due to the DirectX change, but the details on the update mentioned something about a critical security upgrade, so I went ahead and installed it.

After installing the update, I am unable to login to my computer. When I try starting windows normally, it gets stuck at the "Windows is Starting up" screen. In safe mode (without networking), when I enter login name and password, it gives me an error "system could not log you on now as the domain <PCNAME> is not available". It does not matter if I try to use my regular user account or Administrator account to login, it gives the same message. I also tried rebooting into the command prompt, but it prompts me for login/password and gives above error. Irrespective, I cannot login to the computer.

Not sure if this was caused by the DirectX quartz dll change or due to the update installed by Windows (or if the Windows update was triggered because it noticed the older version of DirectX change?) so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but hope someone more technically knowledgeable can suggest some options that can help me get past the above error. I can then try uninstalling the most recent hotfix and see if that fixes the issue. If that doesn't work, I'll try to undo the quartz dll patch.

Would appreciate any help or guidance to where I can find help on this.

My System specs: Athlon XP 2200+, 768MB RAM, 20GB HDD, AIW Radeon, Windows 2000 w/ SP4.

Thanks,
-Topper

Are you trying to log onto a domain? Can you try just logging into the computer and not the domain?
My win2k computer also had a critical update on the 3rd or so. I have the quartz.dll from 9.0b also and I did not see any issue with logging on after that. I doubt it is related to your problem.

How can I check if the computer is trying to log onto a domain and subsequently try to logon to the local PC? Also, why does it use the name of the local computer as the domain name in the error message. For example, the PC I am logging onto is called GBPVRPC. The message says system could not log you on now as the domain GBPVRPC is not available.

BTW, I also disabled the onboard LAN controller in the BIOS and then try to logon but it gave the same error. Is there a different way to try to log onto the computer. I do not recall setting up a domain or domain controller, although I did map the C drive on my GBPVRPC onto my WinXP Home PC so that I can copy recorded files from the GBPVRC to my WinXP Home PC.

Atleast from above post it sounds like the problem may not be related to the quartz.dll.

Any further thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,

I doubt you are running a domain but if you were the login box would have something like

User Name:

Password:

Logon to:

In the logon to window you would be able to select between a domain or a local computer.

If there is no way to switch then you aren't on a domain and windows sounds like it needs to be repaired.

I searched a little and this article might apply.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244671
Basically it says you can get the message that you have if the crytpo files are corrupt.

You are right, I do not see a dropdown box with an option to select the domain.

Thanks for the link on Microsoft's webpage. I also came across these articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232476
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securit...7-017.mspx - this is related to the windows update from Apr 03 and how to roll back the update.

Will try out the options listed in these articles. Although I have a bootable W2K floppy disk (need to still figure out how to make a bootable W2K CD), but the floppy probably does not have the latest rsaenh.dll.

pastro, would appreciate if you could share the rsaenh.dll.

Thanks,

Here's the rsaenh.dll from my win2k machine.
The file has been renamed as rsaenh.dll.zip so the forum would upload, rename it back to rsaenh.dll.
