Can this be done?

Basically, if I have two digital set top boxes, what do I need the tuners for?

So is there a way to just have two video inputs and two IR blasters to control the STB's?

Any one done this or have any suggestions?

First question for me would be can you buy a card that has two S-Video in's and no tuners?

Yeah sure, it can be done. GB-PVR doesnt need the device to have a tuner, but I dont know if you'll find any devices with the required hardware MPEG2 encoder without a tuner.

To be honest, the tuner adds nothing to the price of the device, so I'm dont think its worth avoiding a device with tuner. If you need two svideo inputs, then you need to look at device like the Hauppauge PVR500 - regardless of the fact you're not intending to use tuner.

It's not so much that I'm trying to avoid it as I'm just trying to explore other options.
Maybe there is a card out there that can take Component in, maybe I can free up a PCI slot of which I only have 2...if not, well no harm done I guess...

Do you have YCbCr or YPbPr from the settop box? I'm guessing you have an analog out (YPbPr).

Composite and S-Video only, no component out...
