I'm going to be moving to a new apartment and I plan to hook a DirectTV D10 receiver to my Hauppauge WinTV PVR150 and I want to use that IR Blaster thingy to change the channels.

So .... how do I connect the D10 to the PVR150? Can I get away with S-Video, or do i have to use the RCA plugs?

Also, which plugin do I use to control the tuner?

Definitely use Svid over RCA/composite for a better picture.

GBPVR would control the tuner. Or did you mean what would control the IR blaster? If the latter I'm not really sure since I've never delved into the blaster end of things.

Cheers

The DirectTV tech will be over on Thursday 4/26 to tell us whether we can get service. I think it's a sure thing since our neighbors have it, but our roofline is a bit higher, so we'll see.

Yes, I was wondering which channel changer & profile combination I should select for the DirectTV D10 on the PVR-150. I have a pair of WinTV's now, and I'll definitely be hooking up SVid & RCA L/R>Mic Jack>Line In if DirectTV pans out. I'm curious though, what do I do with the spare IR Receiver, hide it?

To change channels, you'll need an ir blaster - I just used the one that came with the PVR-150. I had to tape the IR emitter over the DTV box (where the IR sensor is) because it would not work from more than 1-2 cm away.
As far as configuration, for channel changing -
While configuring the card settings - I set it to fixed channel, external tuner (the fixed channel was 3 for me)
I used the .exe plugin and pointed it to haupblast.exe that resides in the GBPVR directory.
I selected the checkboxes for Use 3 digit channel numbers and to add zero padding (i.e. channel 10 is sent as 010).
I've had this set up for >15 months now - has worked without a single problem.
Hope that helps.

Oh btw, I hid the spare IR receiver

i had to hit Radio Shack for a pair of RCA>1/8" cords, and I now have Svid and stereo on both PVR150's in my box. Thanks for the advice on the IR Blaster, I have one up and running and it worked flawlessly. I'll do the other one later.

btw Zap2it took ~30 min to pick my lineup *sheesh* owell lots more channels!

I'm a bit frustrated. gbpvr is grabbing a pvr150 for recording and changing the box attached to the OTHER pvr150. I checked, i've got the svid, the audio, and the IRblaster going from one PCI card to one box.

I think this might be a bug, b/c it doesn't happen when I "watch" a show, only when i "record" it. using 99.12.

GB-PVR has no control over which device the Hauppauge software uses for the IR Blaster. You'll have adjust your setup to accomodate the one the Hauppauge software is using.

I'm a little curious. If i'm simply switching channels with the Hauppauge 45 button remote, then the blaster is in sync. however, when a recording starts simultaneously with a channel change, it does something else.

what logic does gbpvr use to determine which tuner it will use if i have a pair of pvr150's and i want to use both blasters ....?

i fear my strategy is now flawed.

It has no way to use two Hauppauge blasters. Literally the Hauppauge interface only takes a channel number. I cant tell it which blaster to use. ie, I can say "switch to channel 179" and the Hauppauge software takes care of the rest.

If you had two PVR150 cards needing to use an IR Blaster, you'd only be able to use the blaster from one of those cards, and add some other third party blaster like the USB-UIRT for the other one.

Yes, I read about the limitation on the Snapstream forum. Frankly I'm baffled how my box used both of the blasters, since it's a "driver issue". One was used by LiveTV and the other by the recording service while I was testing. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some way to specify the PCI slot or something in the parameters ...

In any case I'm going to try out the ACT-IR200L, and I'll swap in the Theater 550 at some point. No use in idling the other IR remote receiver.
