Hello, I just bought this
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=...-R&cpc=SCH
with plans to build my first DVR.

I am now researching OTA HD capture cards and was wonder if anyone had some advice. I have a 200GB hard drive and am concerned about the 8GB per hour space requirements that HD will take up.

I was wondering if someone could reccomend a card or setup that would enable me to get OTA HD and record it straight to a compressed format like Divx?

Obviously I plan to use GBPVR so it would need to be compatible.

Thanks in advance!

No, you cant. I've chosen to stay away from real-time software encoding.

You can configure it to automatically transcode recordings recordings to divx files though (over night, or immediately after the recording completes).

1. Does the auto transcode product a commercial-free output if commskip is on?

2. I've set it to transcode dvr-ms to mpg files before and it didn't seem to do anything. Because its experimental I just thought it wasn't working yet. I'm using 99.12 Is there a new patch for it?

3. The Transcode button in Video Library doesn't work for dvr-ms files. Is that by design?

nah just hate divx just doesnt cut it if your screen is any bigger than 14inch
plus 500gb of storage is still a few hours of recording(although another hard drive is next on the list The video plugin is great can just keep adding hard drives)Just wish the pci express cards would hurry up so i can fit more tuners
I have 3 anolog and one sat tuner (picture is alot sharper)but no slots left useless new boards
if you need to reduce what is the point of wanting hd just wondering i must be misssing something?

No it doesnt. I dont find comskip reliable enough to do that. I'd rather just have GB-PVR autoskip the ads during playback so I can always skip back if it gets it wrong

It needs the Cyberlink Mux to be installed for this to work. I'm guessing you havnt got it.

It'll only give you the option for dvr-ms files if you have the Cyberlink Mux installed.

Sort of off topic but I hope you have better luck than I did with a similar (HP) system I purchased about 18 months ago and returned within three weeks because of major instability, crashing, lockup, etc. plus the keyboard died 1 week in too.

Thanks for the constructive input. I don't have an HD display. My projector is only 480P. I'm sorry if this upsets your sensibilities. I will try harder in the future
