Will there be a Linux version of GBPVR? (I recomend kubuntu Linux if so). Windows har significantly more overhead than Linux, leading to recording glitches on slower cpu's, so I would welcome a Linux version of this excellent program.Big Grin

Overhead when recording I would have thought would be minute with the requirement for hardware encoding - either on-board like the PVR150 or by the broadcaster. All it has to do is read from the device and dump to disk.
I don't recall subs minimum spec for recording, but when I initially tried things out I used a P3/500

I came here to get away form linux, I like it for servers and things, but as a desktop - not for me.

I can record on windows 2000 on a 800MHz Samual II with 2 analog tuners, PVR150, without any problem.
The same machine doubles as file/mail/web server
No GBPVR UI (possible but VERY slow) on that machine.

i used an PIII 800mhz (slightly overclocked to 936mhz) without problems.

i stripped down winxp as far as possible using nlite and other various tuning tips/resources from the net.
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

I've got GBPVR running on a 1 ghz PC using overlay & even some FFDSHOW to make lower quality xvid scale up to 720x480 with post processing.

But mpeg post processing is impossible, but considering there is no need to scale my recordings or DVD's it really isn't missed.

I would guess overhead for recording is servicing a hardware interrupt and scheduling a DPC (deferred procedure call) to handle the data. Normally this works fairly well for real time systems, but there are some drivers that hold the hardware interrrupt or DPC for too long and that can cause audio skips etc.

Well, recording is no problem, the problem occurs often when I push the "pause" button, sometimes (in fact very often) windows seems to have a lot to do before recording can start, and sevral seconds is lost during this process. Also, "un-pausing" seems to require a lot of recources.

I would think Linux is able to handle this more smootly.

I think what you want is "MythTV" or "Freevo". Have fun, I've been there done that. See you back in a few weeks. Smile

I came here after dealing with MythTV for 3 weeks WITH help from 2 linux programmers.

I never sucessfully recorded a single show, and had nothing but a black screen with live tv.

came here and was recording within 30 mins.
