Hello,

I finally got my MediaMVP after 5 months! But now I am very disappointed. I installed the original Hauppauge software and switched on the MVP. It booted successfully and the GUI appeared. On the FIRST key press on the remote the server application crashed and the MediaMVP rebooted. This could always be reproduced!

I didn't really care because I knew I would use GBPVR as the server. But I tried several combinations of GBPVR versions and dongle.bin or mvpmc. I applied all possible network tweaks. All configurations made the MediaMVP reboot at unpredictable moments. It happens while listening to mp3 music or watching a recorded show or browsing through the menus.

Is there anybody who has a Rev H4 model working with GBPVR? Is it possible that just my device is broken and should be returned?

Any hints?

Thanks in advance!

I am sorry to hear about your troubles, and I have sent a question to Hauppauge asking if there is a change in this version that might cause problems with mvpmc. Could you send me a copy of the dongle.bin that was provided with the Hauppauge software for your machine to the email on my profile. I'm assuming you are running PVRX2 1.0.8 with the mvpmc dongle 070707 for your tests.

Also can you telnet to mvpmc after it loads? If so there are some test I'd like to perform.

Finally are you running Vista or XP

Thanks,

Martin

Update: Hauppauge got back to me and don't feel that the H4 has any changes that would affect mvpmc, but they are sending me one to confirm. They have been a great company to deal with.

Hi Martin,

thanks a lot for your quick answer! Today I called the Hauppauge support in Germany. They haven't heard of any complaints about Rev H4 yet. They could encourage me to test the device again. I will set up the smallest possible solution (another PC, the standard hauppauge software and a crossover cable) to check whether my box is broken or not.

After that I will post again.

Hi,

now I've tried it again with the smallest possible setup: I took another PC (also Win XP) and installed the software from the supplied cd (version 3.2.24206). The MediaMVP was connected to the PC via crossover cable. Again the MediaMVP booted and the Hauppauge GUI showed up. And again: On the first button press on the remote the server application crashed immediately and the MediaMVP rebooted.

I will send you the dongle.bin via email.

I've tried the newest beta version of the Hauppauge software and GBPVR (99.12 and 1.0.8) and a lot of different dongles (including mvpmc).
The MediaMVP runs at least for a few minutes and then suddenly reboots without any obvious reason (no button press, just watching or listening).

I'm curious about your tests. If necessary, I could provide you direct telnet access to my MediaMVP. Details via email Wink

Thanks,

Eyk

The first test is I'd like you to try with the mvpmc dongle is to boot it and don't do anything even go to emulation mode. Telnet to the mvpmc (using Putty) login user root and capture the screen output. The output I want first is from this command

dmesg

This will capture the whole linux boot output and might indicate a driver failure.

I could telnet in myself if this is a problem. (mvpmc even has dropbear for ssh if you are a real guru)

Edit dongle received it is only 1.1.42 so there isn't any new drivers.

Hi Martin,

I finally found the time... I've attached the output of dmesg. Does this give you any clues?

The kernel boot looks ok, so I think you should consider the problem to be unrelated to the H4. (mine is still in transit). You can confirm that mvpmc is working ok with mp3 audio by going into the Filesystem option navigating to /usr/playlist, and opening default.m3u. Then select one one of the streams and see if they play without disconnecting. If the disconnect after 5 minutes you might have a faulty mvp if not you can continue to diagnose this as a gbpvr problem.
