Hi,

Hope someone can pass some light on my problem. My PVR has been working great for a year, but yeterday just wouldnt turn on (i.e. not even fans running) Sad. There appears to be power to the motherboard (My Hauuppaauge PCI card has a red LED lit up) but nothing else.

My guess is it may be the microswitch for actually turning the power on. Would I be risking anything by just shorting the power jumpers to see if this is the case?

Any other ideas??

Thanks

Garyeuph

When I'm in the process of building pcs's up I often just jump the two power on pins for a second with a screwdriver to start it up. No problem at all.

The snag is that there are loads of things nowadays that can prevent a system powering up. I start by removing everything not needed (inc kbd & mouse), then try another PSU (hung outside the box) then its down to mobo, cpu, memory.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have just checked out the PSU with a multimeter and it is pretty dead - 0.0V on the 3.3V and 12V rails, 0.07V on the 5V.

Time for a new PSU - just a difficult size (the tfx from silverstone LC11)
