Hi!

I have since GB-PVR 99.12 (my first try @ network GB-PVR) a small problem with the GB-PVR Server/Client Stability.

I have a Server (192.168.0.1, no firewall, no DHCP) running WinXP Pro latest build. This one is running GB-PVR 1.0.8 as a streamingserver. 2 Clients (192.168.0.3 & 192.168.0.4, no firewall, no DHCP) running WinXP Home latest build. These both are running GB-PVR 1.08 as clients in streamingmode.

The problem is the following:
Both can connect to the server, both can access to the database, both can start and watch timeshifted LiveTV... BUT... the streaming stops after a while. Most times after around 30 Minutes. Both Clients are using both Tuners of the PVR-500 and both Tuners write down a timeshifted file to the harddisks (the files grow and grow and grow, and after a channelchange the old timeshifted records will NOT be deleted!).

But while the growing files are more secondary important i am seeking for a solution why the streaming stops and the picture freezes. Even after the streaming stops, both tuners are running. I have the same errors, if i only try ONE Client.

Filesharingmode is not possible and don't works...

Can someone help me out of this? Is something known about this?

It's really important to me, because i plan to use one central PC with a bunch of TV-Cards and a distributed Network for receiving the shows (normal PCs, special MCPC's for Livingroom, bathroom, childsroom, kitchen...), but it's useless if the testarea isn't able to run stable.

Here are some logfiles from 1 server (MC-PC01) and 1 client (shiningblueeyes). It seems, that the streaming brokes @ 18:28h.

Someone any idea, why the streaming stopped? Network is a Gbit-LAN with a Switch. Systems are based on Intel DG965OT und DG965WH Platforms.

If this helps: The problem ONLY occurs, if i am using the "streaming" of Live TV. If the playback of "normal" Videofiles is used, then there's no problem. The Clients can watch hours and hours movies.
The network itself is very stable and proven (hours of sending tons of GB from pc a to b to c, simultaneous...)

You're meaning for the streaming LiveTV? This one isn't too heavy, if you know, what to do.

1. You need a working Intranet. This means: You must be able to acess to all PC's within your network.
2. The CLIENTS (the PC's without TV-Card) SHOULD have acess to the GB-PVR Folder, where the EPG-Database is. And the CLIENTS need acess to the timeshift folder of the server too. I made this via "filesharing" within Windows XP. The CLIENTS can acess via the "filesharing" to these both folders on the server. If this works (and you gave them writepermission for the database) then the most important is done.

For the server you just have to go to the config stream and enable the "Streaming"-Mode.

The Clients have to be setup in "Clientmode" within the configapplication. Then you just need to make 2 entries. The 1st one is for the location of the GBPVR.DB3 Database (for the EPG). Make an entry like "\\NameOfTheServer\FilesharingNameOfGB-PVRFolder" and one for the Timeshiftfolder like "\\NameOfTheServer\FilesharingNameOfTimeshiftFolder"

Ah, and very important: DISABLE YOUR FIREWALL ON YOUR PCs!!! I don't know for sure, which ports you're needing to get past the LAN. In my case it's not important, because the intranet is behind a NAT-Enabled hardwarefirewall Router.

If u need a more detailed help, just write and i'will make screenshots of my settings.

So and now back to my problem, plz... ;D

I've had it running on a client for over an hour now, and seen a couple of show switches. It seems to be going ok so far, but I'll leave it running.

I have made a couple of minor changes in my build which may have helped this though. Hard to tell.

Thank you for testing. Can you say something about the Informations within the logs? Perhaps what part is the error? Server? Client?

Of course i will try your next Releaseversion with your minorchanges... Big Grin

Ah, what i wanted to say:

I had the problem with following configuration:

Server: GB-PVR 0.99.12 <-> Client: GB-PVR 0.99.12
Server: GB-PVR 1.0.8 <-> Client: GB-PVR 0.99.12

Now i'll upgrade the Clients with a FRESH Install of GB-PVR 1.0.8 and all updates from the survivalguide. Perhaps i should make a clean install on the server too.

If something changes, i'll write it here again, otherwise i'll just wait for your response.

You don't have any sync issues? I have serious sync problems with livetv being several seconds off. When playing back recordings the problem is there as well but less. This started with 1.09.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.
