If you're talking about accessing the BBC live feeds from the web site then - no, not natively with GB-PVR. You might want to have a look at the UbuStream plugin though - not tried it myself but I believe it allows accessing net streams.

You can listen to FM radio (if you have a TV tuner card with built-in FM tuner) on the MVP though. DVB-T radio, i.e., the radio channels broadcast on Freeview also isn't support by GB-PVR (yet - but we keep bugging sub to include it one day).

Cheers,
Brian

I stream the BBC 6 chart show to listen on the mvp every few weeks so it is doable.

So it's not straight forward then !

Bbc6 ? can you get that because it uses mp3 instead of real like the others?

Is there any streaming media player that anyone knows of that can play radio 1 ?

It's not straight forward because the BBC doesn't stream in mp3 or in http so it has to be transcoded to play on the mvp. Finding the a non-obfuscated URL can be a challenge, and being here in the colonies outside the UK doesn't help.

There are four ways that mvpmc can play these streams on the mvp

emulation mode - Ubustream /gbpvr (i did not test this option)
mclient AlienBBC / Slimserver
Filesystem UPnP - Tversity
Filesystem interface to mplayer/vlc (I use this one but is also the most geeky to set up and should be able to play any rtsp stream that mplayer can play)

(I've had the least success with UPnP transcoding solutions for real audio files and streams)

Regarding Radio 1 I'm playing it now via this url in the file system interface

rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio1/live/r1_dsat_g2.ra

I personally wouldn't buy any media extender because they can play one url and be careful in your research since most solutions are transcoding solutions.

I'm also adding QAM digital audio support to mvpmc which should be able to work with DVB audio too. I will be using TSReader as a server and it is a bit pricey.

Did you try it on the good old Hauppauge MediaMVPService Radio? Its more powerful than the GBPVR version. I remember having an exchange with sub on this. He would need to licence rather expensive software to get to the same functionality if I remember well.
The point in getting it done is to obtain the ultimate url for the stream. It did that by opening the url's in explorer, and look at the source code. Sometimes I had to go through 3 or 4 url's to get at the ultimate url (mms:, etc)

Actually I don't think the Hauppauge internet radio is any good and it doesn't handle redirects well. It also only handles http of mp3 and the hard to find http of wma.

I think mvpmc's native mode does a much better job of locating the true URL and it can go through 5 redirects (although I'm biased because I wrote it Big Grin ) and I even have a means of showing the final url used http://yourmvpip/connect.log should you want to update a playlist.

There is also a good program out there called URLSnooper that helps find URL for internet radio junkies like me.

Martin,
Thanks for the additional information.
Actually I only said the Hauppauge internet radio is better than the GBPVR version (that only allows you Shoutcast streams). Indeed redirecting is a pain, but if you only have a handfull of stations as I had it is not to bad.

I did occasionally listen to the predefined MVPMC radio stations. Maybe I did not use them correctly. I just happened to find the links and clicked on them. I will look into that some more.

I knew you were only comparing the two, but I wanted to make sure that brid didn't think the Hauppauge software would help with the BBC.

The predefined ones aren't really there for a reason (someone requested the classical station) except they help me test. If you have a request feel free. I did open a thread on Internet Radio on the mvpmc forum that you can follow up on this. If you every come across a URL that is not behind a password that I can't play let me know, I find it a lot of fun figuring out why.
