First off, Sub, thank you for a wonderful tool. I've been benefiting from your skill and generosity for the last couple of years (and as a side note, I'm one of those Canadians who is not so patiently waiting for a Zap2it alternative Sad ).

I got a new machine, and installed a clean copy of GBPVR v1.0.8. The recording is working well, as I see the file that got recorded, and am able to view the file using VLC Media Player. However, when I try to access the file through GBPVR, it simply bounces me back to the screen where I made my play selection.

I am hoping that the attached debug-mode log file helps. All I can see in this log is the message "Received event code: 1", but I don't know how to proceed. (Yes, I really did attempt to play the file 10 times in fairly rapid succession - I wanted to make sure I was able to find the correct location in the log file when I was done). I copied the log file before I shut down GBPVR, so my attempts are right at the bottom.

Any help you or any of the other many helpful individuals who patrol these forums would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and the "Minimal OSD during playback" box is unchecked Smile

I'm guessing you havnt got a MPEG2 decoder installed? What audio/video decoders do you have selected on the playback tab of the config app? Dont leave them on the 'system default'.

Where would I go to download other decoders?

Thanks for the incredibly rapid response! Smile

sorry - realized that was a bit of an empty response.

I have just reinstalled a completely fresh Windows XP Home SP 2 (and downloaded all updates from Microsoft - whew! :p ). I have installed very few "extras", and as such, haven't downloaded any codecs or other options that aren't completely required (one reason for the upgrade was that my machine was starting to crawl, so I've been keeping myself off the download/try/remove treadmill).

Is there somewhere I can go to download a decent MPEG2 decoder?

Thank you.

You can download a free decoder from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

Awesome. Downloaded the file, registered it (regsvr32 D:\Utilities\gbpvr\Mpeg2DecFilter.ax), and badda-boom, badda-bing, GBPVR is playing sweetly like it should.

Now, did I completely miss something in the docs :o or should this sort of thing be added to the newbie FAQ (I guess when I installed GBPVR previously, it was on a sufficiently old enough system that i had all sorts of junk in there, including good junk Big Grin )

I have noticed that while both GBPVR (and Windows Medial Player v9 for that matter) now will both play files captured through GBPVR, they are both lacking in sound. Do I have to download a separate audio decoder?

(and is there an FAQ/Wiki section that deals with startup issues like this that I can turn to and not ask you directly -- I don't want to take any time away dealing with questions that may have been documented elsewhere.)

Thank you. Big Grin

Try the MPA audio decoder to go with your MPV video decoder: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPA_Decoder.htm
