Hi. I want to upgrade but I want to make sure that I keep all of my settings the same as they are now. Is there an easy and convenient way to do this? Also, when I upgrade, how will I get GBPVR to recognize what recordings are already there and have them show up in my "Recordings" tab?

Backup gbpvr.db3 or gbpvr.mdb and config.xml. That way you can always go back to the version you had. Don't uninstall or delete anything, just run the installer, it should preserve all the settings and recordings.

Also, from the config program, export your recordings (from the plugins tab) and save the file it creates. Then you can import that file back if your recordings don't show up after the upgrade.

also get direct.ini...
i usually just copy gbpvr/ *.xml, *.db3, *.ini, *.config, *.bat, and *.cmd
to get your updateepg.bat, processing bats, etc and direct.ini for recording settings, the .configs are for any add-ons..

oh and the plugins dir...and maybe skins..Smile

just depends on how thorough you want to be..Big Grin

Ok, I now know that I need to export then reimport when upgrading. I wish I knew that before I upgraded. Sad

Is there a tool, plugin or a simple trick to add all the shows I have recorded back in to gb-pvr or am I going to have to edit the .xml, .db3, .ini and all the other files by hand?

depends on what version you were running before. see if you have a recordings dump.xml file in your gbpvr folder. if you have, import it via the config.exe program. it may have been overwritten if you have updated your epg since the upgrade.

otherwise you will need to use this little program

Most dont have to do any of that, they just run the installer and it takes card of the rest. I do advise people backup their config.xml and gbpvr.db3 files in case they encounter any problems.

Its very rare that anyone ever has problems with any upgrade. The usual cause of problems with recordings not being listed etc is because the user has incorrectly tried to restore their old config.xml/gbpvr.db3 file onto the new version. These files are not compatible between versions, and can only restored to the version they came from. I only advise them to be backed up in case there is a problem and the user needs to reinstall their old version.

As an extra backup, every night GB-PVR creates a recordings-dump.xml file in the GB-PVR directory that can be reimport recordings if they're lost for some reason.

Anyone willing to create a brief overview page for the Wiki on how to upgrade? Big Grin
