Since upgrading to 1.0.16 (I skipped 1.0.8) auto aspect is not working for me, I was using VMR9 Custom before and am still using it, I assume that this is the prefered option. I haven't seen any other posts on this but am suprised especially since it worked flawlessly before the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Can you expand on "not working for me", is it simply not switching or is it switching incorrectly?

Yeah, what he said. Give us a proper description of the problem and I'll look into it for you.

I'm not aware of any issues relating to this.

Also remember you need to be explicitly selecting the video decoder in the playback tab for this to work, rather than relying on 'system default'.

For me, Live TV gets it correct when set to Auto and playing recordings gets it wrong.

The attached logs are for watching Live TV and playing a recording of the same show.

For what it's worth the Live TV bit of the log has this :

2007-08-22 17:51:44.937 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-08-22 17:51:44.937 VERBOSE video resolution is 720 x 480
2007-08-22 17:51:44.937 VERBOSE unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame
2007-08-22 17:51:44.937 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:44.937 VERBOSE getSetting(VerticalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.265 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase::playLiveStream() done
2007-08-22 17:51:45.265 VERBOSE setVideoWindowPos(0,0,0,0)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.265 VERBOSE Checking if inset mode
2007-08-22 17:51:45.265 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.265 VERBOSE getSetting(VerticalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.328 VERBOSE setVideoWindowPos(0,0,0,0)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.328 VERBOSE Checking if inset mode
2007-08-22 17:51:45.328 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.328 VERBOSE getSetting(VerticalZoom)
2007-08-22 17:51:45.359 VERBOSE SetRenderList creating new texture
2007-08-22 17:51:46.265 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-08-22 17:51:46.265 VERBOSE video resolution is 720 x 480
2007-08-22 17:51:46.265 VERBOSE source is 16:9

which seems to show two goes to find the aspect and gettiing it wrong the first time and correct the second time.

The play recording bit of the log has this:

2007-08-22 17:52:12.140 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-08-22 17:52:12.140 VERBOSE video resolution is 720 x 480
2007-08-22 17:52:12.140 VERBOSE unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame
2007-08-22 17:52:12.140 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)

which seems to show one go to find the aspect and getting it wrong.

Thanks

Graham

P.S. I think that there should be a lot more use of Smilies in the logs. Smile.

Do you have access to a web server? If so, is there any chance you could make a one minute long recording for me to have a look at?

Hopefully this contains what you need - it's only eight seconds.

I haven't really noticed whether there is any difference between live TV and recordings and I must admit that I have not spotted a pattern, its just that I am often having to set the aspect manually since auto is not always getting it right. I will look further when I get the chance.

You'd really need to give a concrete concrete example. A screenshot might be useful. You'll also need to let me know what capture device you're using, and supply the logs.

Also, you need to make sure you're not got something else that is trying to maintain the aspect ratio. For example, if you're using the nvidia video decoder you need to set it to the 'Anamorphic' aspect ratio otherwise it tries to control the aspect ratio and ends up conflicting with GB-PVR aspect ratio control, which makes it wrong.

Graham, can you check your aspect ratio settings in the nvidia decoder?
