I have read a lot of old posts about not being able to play DVDs on an MVP.
I have just started using GBPVR.
Can anyone tell me if the latest revision of GBPVR and a Hauppauge Media MVP (or any MVP) can be used to play a DVD folder (video_ts) located in my VIDEO LIBRARY (with or without menus).
Thanks
Steve

I doubt it, I think it still would have to transcode the vob to mpg. What is the difference between playing a dvd-disk and playing a dvd-folder?
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

You can use Videoredo to join and change the VOB's into one MPEG.
It's quick and easy. No menu's though !

there are a couple options,
1.XMVPDVD plugin: not sure how it works with pvrx2.exe but it does with gbpvr.exe..[try placing it in gbpvr\plugins\legacy\ and gbpvr\plugins\ also]
closest thing to regular playing, no menus tho..[nothing can do menus yet]

2.you can dump/convert the file beforehand, using one of many tools..
Mplayer -dump, or mencoder cop/transcode to a single mpeg...
vlc.exe,
a myriad of other pay tools, cmd line utils..as long as they can convert a encrypted dvd to a single mpeg...
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

It is disappointing that DVDs with menus cannot be played from a video_ts folder on an MVP.
I have about 100 DVDs that I have made of my children over 20 years with the menu being a very important part of the video. No one wants to wade through hours of home video looking for a particular event.
I have archived them on about 750Gb of hard drive space.
I have just moved over from MythTV (which could do this) as I’m just not a LINUX person.
I can always just do it on the computer and modulate the video round the house on an analogue channel.
Then I will just have to be patient and wait for the digital solution as I am sure it will happen

Hi Sub. I wrote a note yesterday about not being able to run video_ts folders through GBPVR - and you told me that possibly my decoders weren't supported.
Turns out i think it is (Cyberlink PowerDVD) and I think i just wasn't specific enough. Turns out GBPVR plays it beautifully (on the computer). The real problem is what is mentioned in this thread; I can't seem to play it in conjunction with my Hauppauge Media MVP on the TV. from this thread it seems that this is not supported... is this true? if so - do you or anyone know of any solution that might support menus? if no, what is the best solution to at least play them (even without menus) without having to convert them beforehand? xmvpdvd is mentioned above... is this the best option?

any insights appreciated.
(also, while i'm writing - does anyone know how to get the channel numbers to appear beside my tv listings? i'm getting the names but i never know what channel is which)

thanks guys

Ah, right... This is a prime example of why it helps to give a full description of your problem and setup.

As you've already found out, there is no way to play DVDs on the MVP. This hardware was not designed for this purpose.

There is nothing built in that will do it. I think plugins exist which try to convert the DVD to standard MPG file for playback without menus, but I've never tried them so cant provide any comments on them.

I dont have the details in front of me at the moment but if you do a forum search you'll fine details about setting 'channel header type to 1' or something similiar.

Not to keep kicking a dead horse...but I noticed in MVPMC that there is a VLC stream option and I'm wondering if that can be used to stream a DVD. Couldn't we (sub or a plugin writer) add this option to the MVP interface so that VLC begins streaming the dvd?

This figure makes it appear that VLC is capable of streaming dvds (and decrypting them too according to this table)

Someone did submit a patch to mvpmc to play dvd iso's without menus through the vlc interface but no one really showed any interest and I can't test it.

Is this in the current MVPMC dongle that you recommend for GBPVR users? Does it use this method: http://raz.cx/blog/2006/10/mediamvp-and-...a-vlc.html ?
